This map needs to be pulled until the bugs are worked out. Quit a few people, myself included, suffer severe frame rate loss, warping issues, and loss of skins making us relog and redownload.

Typically, I don't like any of the large maps at all. It hasn't achieved it's purpose of removing the horde factor. Huge maps with little territory being played on is rediculous.

In the same breath, I do admit I like the Oz map. That is the favorite of the larges, Baltic next with Big Isle and Lake Uterus being next. Mindanao is ok, but I completely loathe Equinox and Trinity. Thank God that eye blight map Pizza is not in rotation either.....it gives me a headache after half hour of flying...

Just saw on the Bugs forum Skuzzy addressing the skins issue...this may be the problem and may not be attributed to the map at all

Relog for skins

Well its round like pizza but thats about it.

I initially thought it was similar too  but the base & landmass layouts arent the same.

And I miss the deep valleys.
And the color.

Big maps (AKDesert being the first) were not designed or introduced with the intent of removing the horde factor. The large maps came before the "horde" became a problem.

Equinox is actually AKDesert circa the pre-Ice Age before the oceans and vegetation dried up.  Maybe HT can make a "Jurassic Park" type island with a Brontosaurus or two as an an easter egg somewhere.  :D

I'm actually OK with both the small and large maps since we're seeing both.

No...they were probably created because HT was moving towards the larger setup in anticipation of ToD or for the increased number of players (ala horde). The large maps, however, do not provide a playing field for an increased player base as players still horde, thereby overstressing frame rates in the vicinity. That, coupled with the new terrain increases the frame rate hit.

My problem is my bottleneck is probably my monitor. I don't have $800 to upgrade from my 19" LCD that's 2 years old and only supports a refresh of 75 at my reoslution level.

I have found with smaller maps that the player base is more dispersed, and not a tax on my system in regards to frame rates. On Baltic the other night, I had 4-5 base options to attack.

Equinox last night I was relegated to 1-3 options...all horde events. When we (the squad) did stir trouble at an undefended base with the intentions of getting some people away from the hording, we were quickly overwhelmed. 3 against 15 is not lovely odds. I can handle 3 to 7 odds, but I won't stick around for a 5:1 ratio.

So, we left because we got tired of the horde banging we were receiving and went to a more balanced fight. This fight, however, was about 2 bars of rooks versus 2 bars of knights. OMG my frame rates blew monkey chunks, and my performance suffered. Planes warped (I still attribute that strictly to this map), gunnery suffered (and I suck bad enough in gunnery), and of course I died a lot....which gets frustrating leading to logging.

I'm not saying the small maps are perfect, that there is never any hording going on cause that's just not true. I do see better balance though on the small maps with a fluid ebb and flow of numbers at bases. Anyway, just my rant....sorry for not being brief.

My frame rates are peachy keen on Equinox and I'm using a 10 year old Phillips 21b monitor. I'd be glad to trade you.

In this situation, your monitor has nothing to do with your frame rates.  In general, frame rate issues are very rarely associated with a monitor.

You might post your system specs here or in the Hardware section.

Goth, if your only bottleneck is the 75hz limitation on the monitor, you must have one hell of a powerful system.  Monitor refresh limitations only come into play when your system can do higher than the limitation, and in a game as resource-intensive as AH, I don't think most people have such powerful systems.

From memory:

Win XP
P4 2.4 gig processor
1 gig ram (don't know the speed)
9600SE Radeon (went and bought a 6600GT card over the holidays and saw no frame rate improvement, only slight graphics improvement...brought it back, not spending $200 on a card that really doesn't improve overall effects)

Latest drivers as of December to include Mobo, sound and graphics.

Runs Doom 3 quite well...not at highest settings, but then again at 1280x1024 on high performs well enough.

My sliders are 2/3 max with ground slider at .5 miles....so I never really see gv's unless I am within 1k of them, below 400feet.

Water animation off.

I run the game at the same desktop settings 1280x1024 with textures at 256.

You would think withmy system specs and everything it should be running smooth. I don't have time to look at the AA settings, but I should not be pushing the limits since I am running default since reinstall.

I know I'm getting old, but maybe you could solve this other problem which I attribute to my monitor. Planes look like itty bitty dots until they get about 400 out (which it probably why my gunnery has gone down by half). I've tried different resolutions, but to be quite honest I don't want to run the game at 800x600 and I should not have to, this is 2005, not 1995. Once again I think my specs should be more than adequate to run AH.
