hmmm the Taboo of Taboos.  What we have here is a failure to communicate! Not to steal anything from "Cool Hand Luke".   I'm sure(trust) HTC thoroughly investigates every instance and deals with it heavy-handedly.  IMO opinion (for what it's worth) I agree that who was caught and what they were doing is HTC's business.  However that said,  I don't want to know what was done but knowing who done it and how they were dealt with would be an "incentive Plan" for those that would dare tread on forbidden ground.  You can only get away with something so many times eventually you will be caught.  In the military( yes I know this game is no military) if an individual was found guilty under UCMJ a copy of the Article 15 could be published on a units bulletin board for all to read.  Why?    Well to embarrass the individual was not the reason it was to serve as a deterrent for others that would contemplate the same misconduct.   ZERO TOLERANCE!!!    That’s my dime,  do whatever.

2. Rumors of cheating are just as detrimental as cheating.

I have heard you say that many times in the past. I have never believed it :)

I think all people who are banned for cheating should have their call signs posted on the website to show that the game company is actively doing something about cheaters and to serve as a deterrent to others who might contemplate the same.

To tell people they cant even talk about it and threaten them with banning for talking about it is rediculous imo. But I'm just a peon here, my 14.95/month means nothing in the big picture ;)

From a business standpoint it makes perfect sense.  How bad do you think the damage would be if one of the gaming magazines or sites mention in their reviews about these rumors of cheating?  It could sink a game.

BS......more than one game out there uses Punkbuster to catch and ban cheating punks now, not a one of those games has sunk. Hiding the word *cheater* in the closet does nothing for the game company. Except maybe make the owner of said company feel better.

It's a sad fact that cheating is a fact of online gaming these days. The only time a game goes under because of cheaters is when the game company turns a blind eye to the cheating going on. Microsoft had an online space game (forget the name atm), people quit that game in droves when the hacks started appearing and Microsoft did nothing to stop the hacks. America's Army admits that hacks are present and uses Punkbuster to deter them. AA is alive and doing very well.  (Just 2 examples)

- Now how did squaddie go about that? Did he give a heads up to weird behavior that he witnessed so others might be able to capture film to send to HTC or at least substaniate the claim? Or was it more along the lines of "Whaaaaaaaaaaa that ****ing ****er is ****ing cheating!"

2.  Same squaddie posts on this BB about 2 players he suspects are *treating* and his post is immediately erased.

- His field, his rules. He can erase whatever he wants. If I had my way HTC would delete every single one of funked's posts.

3.  Why does HTC squelch discussions about *treating*?  The majority of players have seen game play that appears 'too good to be true', yet HTC acts as if *treating* doesn't exist.

- If by "the majority of players have seen game play that is 'too good to be true'" means "Damn I was stupid there and got my arse handed to me so im gonna throw my joystick and maybe hit the cat or snap at the old lady next time she gives me a honeydo  etc..." Im sure you are 100% correct.

4. What is HTC's policy on *treats*? Have they discovered any *treats* in the past? Done anything about them?

- What HT said to you.

5. We are told to film questionable game play and email them to HTC--what does HTC do with them?  Are *treaters* ever caught?

- Bans them for-evar!  And are cheaters ever caught? Im sure every single one has been. That is the thing about cheating. Once you get an edge in a game by dishonest methods, most people can't go back and play fair. They get used to having the upper hand. Eventually they will get caught.

6. And what about the 'for bribes' link in Hitech's signature block--are *treats* available to those who send Hitech a bottle of scotch?

- If i was HT, which i know that im not, that statement right there would get you banned immediately. Insulting someone's integrity like that is just dumb. I assume you were joking.

7. IMO, HTC can continue to act as if *treating* does not exist or it can come clean and let us know what they are doing to squelch it.

- First, HTC and every other game developer knows that someone will always try to get an edge through dishonest means. Occasionally they will suceed. And everytime they will be caught.

Think of it this way. AH is HTC's baby...His life's work so to speak. If someone messes with his life's work, he is gonna be pissed for sure and go out of his way to fix the situation.

Second, what HTC does to get rid of the cheaters is HTC's business, not yours or mine.

8. I don't like to play when I feel others are *treating*. I am less motivated to play when I see HTC squelching discussions of *treating* rather than doing something about it.

- This one is gold. I play hockey. If i see somone with a weird looking curve on his stick, or the goaly's pads at the other end of the ice look a little wide, i dont fall down on the ice and start screaming to every other player and any spectators that the dude is cheating. I quietly call over the ref and point it out..then it is up to him. (eg email HTC directly with your concerns.)

That being said, im not going to stop playing hockey because there might be the odd person out there that might be cheating. Give me a break.

Ever heard about the Aces High Mile Club??

Now, my regards on cheating: If people think they need to do that, they have to fight it out with their own conscience (oh yes, its an existing thing for some people). And run the risk of eventually being detected and banned by HT.

Flaming and 'talking' it to death on BB serves nothing. Wed be back to the spanish inquisition. Or for people that like it more recent: Neighbours reporting each other to the Stasi in East Germany.

And as has been said before: Supposed 'cheating' might just be better ACM and plane handling, or warping due to bad net connection, or or or....

I've been doing combats sims for 5 years.  I have NEVER seen a fully blown, in ya face "Treater" or masturbator.

I've seen things that people misjudge and call "Treats" i.e incredible turns because the guy had combat trim off and all the best Stick throttle and rudder gear.  I've seen folk misjudge an opponents "E" with cries of "I was doing blah blan miles an hour how could you catch me up".  I've been ammazed at some folks ability with the 5 inch cv gun.  Also been amazed at some folks ability with Gv's but maybe just maybe they are ACTUALLY really better at that stuff than I am.

The only boarder line "Treaters" are the odd one or two and I mean the odd one or two Dial up guys.  Seen that more in the other sim than in AH.

I've been accused of "Treating" for killing 2 bombers on 1 pass and for surviving a dog fight in CV ack....We wasn't in the ack!

Now........ stick stirrers are Masturbators.  Little hands in full rhythm.  Plane bobbing up, down, sideways.  Just what are they doing in there.  Getting their rocks off with a public display of self abuse :rofl
