Anything I can do about it - Los Angeles Savvis net.

Watched it for a while, continual packet loss anywhere from 11.11% to 30%.

Did that, and posted.
However there are so many replies, I didn't want to be lost in the fray. This is a big problem - more info to come. You will also note that Skuzzy is mentioning problems with Savvis Chicago, my problem is Savvis LA.

Problems are with Savvis all over.  Savvis stinks.  They've been having money trouble for years and are barely above going bankrupt (barely avoided it in 2001 I believe it was).  I pointed you to that thread because everyone's info collected in one place makes it easier to read through.  Everyone starts posting their own threads when they are all related and soon this forum will be swamped with them and it will be chaos.

Actually Star, Savvis is one of the few ISP's actually making money.  Last year thier stock did really well.

But, the reason we asked for putting all those posts in that one thread was so we could make some comparisons and check for various other issues which would cause what we are seeing.

We realize many are frustrated with the Internet situation and we are diligently working on it.  It would not be prudent to go at this in panic mode.
We appreciate all the posts and information we have been getting.  It has proven to be immensely helpful and I have been looking over and analyzing it as it gets posted.

There is not much we can say right now, other than we are working on this and will get it resolved.

They made 94 Mil last year.  After taking over CWA they had projected to make over 700 Mil by the end of 2004.  You can look at them and say they made 94 Mil.  I look at them and say they lost 606 Mil.  Whether that was false projection, they changed their accounting practices, whatever.  When Bridge went belly up in 2001 Savvis almost lost their shirts.  It was a wakeup call as to how fragile they are that no one heeded.  The fact that they are making money today stems almost solely from them making do with crappy, outdated equipment far less staff than they need.  And they still arent making what they should be.  They have offices in 40 countries for goodness sake.  I know this isnt the place for rants about a company like this, but they have been pulling the wool over the eyes of the Internet for years.

Anyway, I hope you can get the issues resolved for these guys.  I remember what things were like for Kesmai with their ISP issues before they went under, and it was constant complaints from people who wanted to blame the game instead of the internet.  The world hasnt changed much.  Maybe you'll be more persuasive, or Savvis will surprise me and give a darn.  I'll keep my fingers crossed for you either way.

Now Star, check with other ISP's and they are in much worse shape.  Actually, Savvis uses Juniper M60/M80 routers.  I would not call those old or antiquated in the least.

I am not defending them, but they are a force to contend with.  Being the second largest Internet backbone provider, it would be difficult to avoid them.

Just FYI, had no probs last night, ran pingplotter for the whole time I was on, not one lost packet. So maybe it was just a bad night for Savvis LA for some reason. Will keep checking.

I hadn't ever thought about just leaving ping plotter running in the background, I think I'll start doing that from now on just to check whats going on when I'm playing. Doesn't seem to affect gameplay at all.

It seems like all telecom companies are slippery fish. Ya think they are healthy and then one day you wake up and the CEO's doing the perp walk on CNN. Amazing stuff.

Ok
Her is a stupid question I am sure
How does a company like Saviss make money on being and Internet routing provider?
Who pays them?  Is it all the ISP's out there that need to pay them? Just curious, cuz it literally makes no sense to me

Other ISP's who get thier feed from Savvis, colocations like ours are the primary revenue generators for a Tier 1 ISP.

I suppose its only fair to admit I have had no experience with them in 2 1/2 years.  The whole company could have changed in that time, the way they were turning over people then.  I wont waste HTC's BBS resources saying anything else about them.  This is one of those times I wouldnt mind being wrong.
