If it's true, and not your imagination, tell him simply that if he does it again, you're gonna kick his arse.  Plain and simple, as for the friendship, man, thats your call, but if it happened to me, he'd be a lot less likely to still be hanging around with me.

If this is true you really have no more friendship left. The relationship is over as he has shown he has no respect for you or your wife. Also if this is true and your wife is offended by this situation (and I hope she is) then there is a real problem in maintaining contact on a personal level anyhow.
