RIP Dean Wormer
« on: February 04, 2005, 12:20:49 AM »

LOS ANGELES Character actor John Vernon, who played the tormented Dean Wormer in "National Lampoon's Animal House," has died in Los Angeles. He was 72.

His daughter, Kate Vernon, says her father died at home of complications from recent heart surgery.

"Animal House," starring John Belushi, is one of the most popular comedies ever made. Vernon's character, Dean Wormer, is obsessed with trying to expel the hard-partying college boys at the Delta fraternity house.

Vernon studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and appeared on stage and T-V in his native Canada.

After appearing on Broadway in "Royal Hunt of the Sun," Vernon began a steady film career, appearing in 1967's "Point Blank," and two films featuring Clint Eastwood: 1971's"Dirty Harry," and, in '76, "The Outlaw Josey Wales."

Dang :(

Always liked his preformances. :(

Some Actors do a really good job.  They get you into the movie.  He was one of those.  I've often enjoyed the way some actors just seem to have a way they hook the audience right into the movie.
It's been said we have three brains, one cobbled on top of the next. The stem is first, the reptilian brain; then the mammalian cerebellum; finally the over developed cerebral cortex.  They don't work together in awfully good harmony - hence ax murders, mobs, and socialism.

John Vernon was a great character actor. It's unfortunate he was typecast as a villain, but he definitely made the best of it. Whenever he came on screen, you knew he was up to no good. He was also one of the greatest vocal actors in Hollywood. Perhaps his greatest lines were from Animal House "double secret probation" and "Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go thru life, son."
