Biggest lobster I ever chowed down on was a 28 pounder. Bought on the Jersey shore at a seafood store. My aunt cooked it for a big family affair. IIRC, she  boiled it in a huge restaurant stock pot and finished it under the broiler in one of those big old turkey roaster pans. I recall that the front 1/3 of the body, including the claws, hung outside of the pan.

The tail, when sliced was the size of a filet mignon, the claws were way bigger than my teenage fist.

It was simply excellent. Tender and flavorful. But then my aunt was an excellent cook and they owned a restaurant.

I recall that the lobster cost less than $60 too. She sent my cousin and I to get it.

Must have been right around '69-'70.
