So, rpm, you say FG is in the top 5.  What are your other four picks?  And, just curious, how many of the others I mentioned have you seen?
I actually don't have a list, but FG would be in it if I did. Excellent story, superb acting, great cinematography and special effects. It was a groundbreaking movie. I'll just throw a few of my favorites out here for you:

Drama:M, North by Northwest, Philadelphia, Il Postino, Lawrence of Arabia, Hud

Comedy: The Philadelphia Story, Bringing Up Baby, Some like It Hot, Snatch, The Great Race, Raising Arizona, Dr. Strangelove

Musical: The Committments*, Paint Your Wagon, Brassed Off*
(*not a true musical in the strictest sense)

War: They Were Expendable, Saving Pvt. Ryan, Schindler's List, Decision Before Dawn

Of the movies on your list:
Tell Me a Riddle: Chick flick. Steel Magnolias and Terms of Endearment were better.

Fargo: Excellent movie, good story filled with wicked dark humor but in no way, shape or form is it as good or better than FG.

Jesus Christ Superstar: Yawn. No wait, I ment ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

Husbands and Wives: Woody Allen. Nuff said.

The Night of the Hunter: Might have to give you that one. Mitchum gave a great performance. Creepy doesn't begin to describe it. It is in the ballpark.

Amadeus: Good, but not great.

Breaking Away: Good, but not great.

A Man for All Seasons: Again, good...but not great. Overrated IMHO. Doctor Zhivago was a better all around film.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

"Citizen Kane" bored me so badly I fell asleep.  To date, the only other movie I have ever fallen asleep watching is "Gladiator".  "Jaws the Revenge" is better than "Citizen Kane".  "Plan 9 From Outer Space is better".   "Spice Girls" is probably better, except I haven't and won't see it.   Even the silent and silly "Metropolis" is better, in its own wierd way.  People who pretend to like 'Kane are usually people who want to look like knowledgeable film buffs.  People who actually like it.....are beyond my understanding.

Forrest Gump is allright.

As for individual actors, John Wayne > all.

Lonesome Dove. Absolutely one of the best of all times.

Lonesome Dove was one of the best movies (mini-series?) ever!
I've never been able to watch Robert Duval in anything since then and not think of him as "Gus".  He's the perfect cowboy type character.  As a cop in "Colors" - no way.  He was still Gus.

Nothing like eating a watermelon sammich, how'd it taste?  I think it's funny you said "pretend".   You probably still dress up in your sisters outfits, cheesed**k.   Get a clue and then buy a vowel.
