Nash, I think you're reading more into it than I did. For present day post 9/11, appreciating our troops whether they be going overseas to fight a battle or coming back from battle fought, doesn't matter. It's the same thing. I looked at the commercial from both perspectives, leaving or arriving. You know what? It played the same to me. I liked it as it made me feel good (as opposed to seeing our troops getting spat on would get my blood boiling).
If I were vacationing in Canada and saw a broadcast of a Canadian beer company doing the exact same type of commercial for Canadian troops, I'd feel the same good thing about it.
Most people here know my views on war, but I sure loved that commercial. It was nice to see some appreciation shown on a commercial (I still won't drink beer though).
That commercial leads me to believe that it was in saying thanks to our troops for the work they've done. Had it been for the work they were going to do, it would probably read as a "Good Luck and Thanks!" type message. Since it says "Thanks" only, it leads me to believe that it is for a job done, hence their return.
Anyway, my two cents.
