Reagan was in the Navy too, thats why he got his boat. :p

There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Someone in the navy still has a HUGE sense of humour.

I wonder if Jimmy is proud or pissed off.

You obviously don't know anything about Carter's Naval service. He was hand picked by Rickover. Not a small statement.

Yeager, are you mixing medications?  Just because you think someone is a poor president doesn't mean that every other aspect of their life must be cat crap too.  Rickover was the ultimate navy hardass.  He demanded perfection, and got it.  He was a real jerk, too, but he's the reason we haven't lost a nuke sub since the Scorpion.  Compare that with the Soviet/Russian safety record, and you might realize just how big a feat that is, and just how unforgiving the depths are.

yep it is cheaper by a billion. Billions just dont stretch like they used to. lol

At a procurement rate of 1 boat per year, Virginia-class SSNs cost about $1.9 billion to $2.0 billion per boat to procure. This cost might decline to about $1.8 billion per boat at a procurement rate of 2 boats per year or $1.6-$1.7 billion per boat at a procurement rate of 3 or 4 boats per year

jimmy carter--- The Navy does not acknowledge that the $3.2 billion submarine...

Carter was the worst president in modern history.

So you start "modern history" sometime after 1974?

Possibly, but as far as the U.S. military is concerned, there's no such thing as COTS. We always modify. :)

Carter is a geniune, honest, straight shooting, 98th percentile IQ guy. And he was a hell of a sailor and an officer.

No wonder he's considered a failure in american politics.

To those of you who chose to deride him because you can't get past your brand loyalty. Why don't you write a letter to any of the enlisted founding members of Delta, the detatchment  not the airline, and ask them what their opinion of President Carter is.

The five worst presidents in recent history are:

Franklin D. Roosevelt
Harry Trumann
John F. Kennedy
Lyndon B. Johnson
Jimmy Carter
Billy Jeff

I think the worst of all was LBJ.

Nixon was probably the worst, total and complete abuse of power for his own egotistic purposes. There are people who he would've liked to have seen dead who are working in the whitehouse today, most prominently Rumsfield.

I'd like to add that JFK expressed a Weltbild that I whole heartedly embrace. The exact prose escapes me, but something about exterminating oppression.

I was in under Carter.

Maintenance, supplies and even fuel were so short that we had to do...literally......... illegal things to get the necessary stuff to fly NSA directed reconnaissance missions.

I got out because of Carter.

I don't hate him or anything but....... good President? Not from my vantage point.

Name a sub after him? Sure.. he did after all rise to the Presidency. Not many folks can say that. But just don't pretend he was somehow "good" for the military. That'd be a joke.
