The dark side of the Force
« on: February 20, 2005, 01:54:46 AM »
Took my 190A8 up for my first sortie this patch.  My A8 icom drew them like flies, a D9 got me.

Second time I've been shot down since last November, such is life.  Chill out, I'm not  really very good, and I haven't flown much in the last 3 months, busy at work.  Sitll I think my score with the A8 was 220 something to about 17. Most deaths were when I was learning to fly her.  I think  I am about 80+ to 3 in since November.

So I took the Dora up.  What a rocket! I just that I have got to learn to controll her speed in a dive.  She is quite a race horse compared to the A8.

I only got 1 kill per sortie in 2 sorties.  But wow!  Climbs like a bottle rocket, and has awesome acceleration, and good speed on the deck.

The A8 was a good ride, but like all things, it must end.

I think I am going to love the Dora. :)

All though the Dark Side of the Force is calling me to fly the LA7 :D

Please ... I was there ... you ran into Mars01 ... not a good guy to run into after wringing your hands and freting all day over the icon system.

You just ran into the wrong guy at the wrong time ... it had nothing to do with the icon system. He doesnt care what variant you were flying ... he attacks all with the same fervor.

You were carrying on how you were 28 and 1 ... well ... like I said above ... you ran into the wrong guy at the wrong time. Had you run into Mars01 last week ... your streak would have ended sooner and no icon system to blame.

Have fun in the Dora ... and when you run into Mars01 again ... be prepared ... chances are great that you just might lose again ... regardless of what variant you chose to fly.

Exactly.

I fear the dude in the Hurri 1 20x more then I fear the dude in the La7.  It's because the Hurri dude can do something or knows something that I don't...

A slight modification to what humble said:

You don't need to worry about what the other guy is in, just WHO he is and what his buddies who are 3.0 out are in. :p

Well, the last time I seem to have been shot down by Mars01 I was in a PT boat in tour 52, I killed his PT boat. He killed my PT boat with a NIKI.  If you want to check, like who cares, I flew as AKff before August of last year.

I didn't go past tour 45.

So I quess you are right, anytime we have fought in planes he has won.  Quite frankly I had never heard of Mars01 one way or the other.  First flight in the new patch and a dora flies up my butt.  If I would have been in a Dora, a simple splits S and dive for the nearest pack of green.  In the A8 you can't even hope to run for any short distance, so I chopped throttle (probably should have turned off engine but as you said, this guy is good), I kicked rudder, got as dirty a confiugation as I could and tried to force an over shoot.  The guy was too slow to start with, and too good, I only lasted maybe 20 seconds with him sticking to my six like hair on a dog, no hits, but he was going to stay there until he got some, and a Dora outturns a A8.  So I tried to dive a bit, and rolling, again trying to force an overshoot, no good, he finally hit me and hit me good.  Hellava nice flying job in his part IMHO.

I retrospection, I dove into a losing situation, too many reds, a bunch with alt and almost no greens.  I was going to back off, but I had been harassed by a pony who made me drop my fuel tank about 1/4 way out and then ,I  tried to keep a F6F from porking our barracks, he augered, no one else at base, I blew all my e and no kill.  I was PO'd at being harassed by the reds, I was low on fuel by then, and wanting to get a quick kill and rtb. Dumb move in a area full of Dora's and LA7's.   But in a Dora, I might still have made it, hard to tell without knowing.

There are probably a 1000 pilots in the arena who can take me out 1 on 1.  But the MA isn't about 1 on 1's.

Like I said, in the new arena, you are going to need faster planes.

I died twice last night in the Dora, once I blacked out and augered, and once I got a fatal pilot wound, I died on the RTB. Only got 3 kills, it handles so different than the A8.

I just have to learn to harness that much power  and speed, my firing passes are way to fast.  So the first month or so I'll have to pay my dues.  Then the icon kee-rap means nothing.  Let them know my 190 is indeed a Dora.

Adapt, improvise, and overcome.

But then isn't life about faster cars, faster women and faster planes? :)

That's very true, real fights in WW2 were rarely about 1 vs. 1's either, AH MA is very realistic in this regard. In WW2 everyone on every side had buddies with them all the time..They just learned to adapt to that situation out of necessity and fear of death. Unfortunately, in the AH MA there is no real death, so those who refuse/cannot adapt to the multi-plane many vs. many situation just piss n' moan ad infinitum...

Ok, you lost me at 1000 kills.  What is this post about again?

I'm thinking you are saying that this new icon thing is hindering your a8 pickage.  I don't think you can see that icon till you are within d1000.  If you are in an a8, in a furball, and within d1000, you are already a target for someone regardless of what your icon says.  Especially if the other guy is in a dora.  He knows, at the very worst, he's equal in speed to your 190 because the D is the fastest version.

At least the a8 isn't an la7  :D
