I wouldnt make issue if this has been the way that the 38's have been since the begining , flown the 38 for years and havent noticed this issue , something has changed..............38

But they are right. Its like the Pilot in the 38 has got a magnet on his skull.

Just the other day KillnU and I were in a low alt fight near, but not over a base. We were maybe 5-6k high at the most... Over the water maybe 10k away from the base... There were quite a few others flying near or around us... We were the only 38's in the area.

As usual the puffy ack was blasting like mad... I finnaly looked around and noticed that it was only on me and him. Out of the dozen or so other friendlies flying around it was on me and him alone. I asked him if he noticed the same thing I was seeing and before he could anwser me he was gone... Back to the tower he went.... Instant pilot death. Not more than a minute after that... BANG! I was in the tower along with him... 88mm

Now... I forgot to mention that Furball was in a Nik flying in and out of the ack chasing cons that were running back to the field. He landed, with no damage, 10 minutes later.

This is just one of MANY instances I can think of right off the bat... Of me and others flying 38's around me getting pilot wounds/kills mush easier than any other fighter.

There is nothing MORE anoying to be fighting alone, in a good 1v1 out away from an nme field and get smacked by this AI ack.

And its not just the AI ack either. Many times I'll go up and get a ping or two forcing an over shot and end up with a pilot wound. In any other plane I can think of other than a 38 I'll loose parts or take a good amount of hits long before I'll take hits to the pilot and get wounded.

I always find mustang fire to be easily giving the pilot wound.

That counts for bombers too.

I haven't really noticed an extraordinary amount of pilot wounds in 38's... I get them all the time when I fly them, but when I get hit in a 38, I REALLY get hit

One thing I have noticed when fighting 38's is that if I have any sort of deflection shot on the wide part of the plane, it's almost 100% pilot pop insta death. Maybe it's just that the area in which hits count against the pilot is bigger in the new 38's?

What is the all alluring draw for pilots to hump it over them mountains to pick on the Gv'ers?
especially 10 times in one night ! You do know them GV's dont fly right?

Yeah I know. But I dont always go after the tankers. Most of the time I up a fuel heavy P-51 and go jabo hunting. It all depends on the mood I am in. Most night me and squadies do nothing but fly CAP in the tank town to stop jabos.
That night none of my squadies were on, and I have never flown the P-38G/P-38J before. So I upped the PJ to go hunt tanks, this was sparked becuase when I spawned a tank into there I was cut down by a spawn camper. So I upped a jabo to put a stop to that. I also fly spotter for friendly
If a tanker gets pissed at me they up an M16 or FLAK and start hammering me. This happens some times. So it is not like they are helpless down there. Besides busting tanks is good eats.

Pyro, can you guys sort pilot wounds on AC? Could it be just because the P-38 has a larger cockpit than other AC?

It really does seem to give me a lot more pilot wounds than anything else I fly. I will start keeping track if you want.

I belive the cockpit of the P-38 was made to accomodate larger, plus sized pilots. Later in the war and when the 38's went into design phase then Army Air Force realized all of their short stumpy pilots were be lost due to attrition. Drunk and disorderly and such. So they decided it would be prudent to make a cockpit large enough to handle larger folks (6 ft +, 200 lbs + types). The second engine was added to the design at that point so the plus sized guys could have enough power to mantain a slight edge in a fight. This is a good thing.

Unfortunately, it wasn't discovered until later in the war, these larger fellows also made larger targets for stray bullets sprayed into their general direction.

I, for one, refused the opportunity to fly the P-38 and instead opted for the P-47. This plane also could support my frame but had more armor. This allowed me to complete my tour of duty.

I believe AH2 has successfully modeled the orignal design concept of the P-38's in all its varieties.
