Here is something to think about.:

Sirian army occupy Lebanon since end of WW2. Official Sirian reason for that occupation is to keep peace in that area, because of "possible" civli war.

The Syrian military began the occupation of Lebanon in April 1976, 30 years after the defeat of the Axis powers.

The Syrians were invited by Lebanon's President to help stop a civil war already in progress among Christians, Palestinians, and Lebanese Muslims.

Ok so its a group that acts with impunity in Syria that is responsible. Does that make the Government of Syria responsible for not cracking down on them?

I guess Rudyard knew a good deal more about the East than the present US administration.
It's not a success of democracy when two thirds of the country take part in the elections. For the democracy to become an effective way of life it takes time enough for at least a full generation change. It's not a good versus bad cowboy shootout.

It took me two seconds to unveil that propaganda trick when I saw on TV those anti-Syrian Lebanese demonstrators.
All these "freedom-mongers" were wearing the
same colorful (red&white, as I could figure it out from a short glimpse) scarfes very much like "the orange people" who supported the US- funded "revolution" in the Ukraine.
