Naming Policy?
« on: February 27, 2005, 05:48:34 PM »
Is there a naming policy for what is acceptable for player names? If so,  why are names like KisMyAss and SomB*tch tolerated?

Both of those names are currently in use by players. My oldest daughter reads the text buffer faster than I do.

If these names are acceptable its just one more reason to allow a permanent squelch list.

*edit* language filter prevents typing SomB*tch's actual name. Just replace * with the letter i. If the language filter here wont let me type his actual name, then he shouldnt be using it in game either imo.

Why not just drop us an email about it?  I'll never understand why something like this should even be posted on the bulletin board.

Of course those names are not acceptable.

Because you dont always get the emails Skuzzy, something to do with your settings so you dont get sent virus's. Posting it here ensures you DO get it.

I've complained about foul names.  I received a prompt reply from HTC.  The offender disappeared.

Try again.

Well I could understand a real bad name but his to me isn't that bad. (means female dog) I think Elfie should worry about what is written in the text buffer more than SB's name. A lot worse is typed out in the text buffer. How do you handle that situation Elfie?

When talking to Skuzzy in game once I mentioned I had gotten no replies from him previously when I emailed him about a game issue. He said something to the effect that if I didnt get a reply from him, then he didnt get it and referenced his virus filters as a possible reason. (All that is paraphased heh)

Earlier this week I sent him another email, this time with a screenshot attached. I got no reply so I have to guess that he didnt get it.

I run a very good AV proggie and keep the AV definitions up to date. I also run 4 or 5 anti- spyware proggies. My email is scanned before it is sent to ensure I am not sending out any virus's. I am really not sure what more I can do to ensure *clean* email from my end, however, I am open to suggestions.

This is the one sure way I knew to bring this to HTC's attention since I havent have very good luck contacting via email.

The email messages I've sent had no attachment.  Maybe your attachments triggered the AV filters.

My assumption was that if I pointed it out, they could confirm it and act on it if they wanted.

By far the worst stuff is on channel 200, I simply dont tune to that channel except on very rare occasions. Country text is far more mild, with only an occassional masked swear word.

It also doesnt just mean a female dog Hondo. It is far more commonly used as a derogatory term towards the human female. You already knew that though didnt you?

I understand that some parents dont mind their kids hearing foul language, some dont even mind if their kids use foul language. Thats those parents' choice, it is not mine. I respect those parents choices even though I do not agree with them.

I've made my choice on this issue regarding my kids.

Obviously I am not the only one who finds those names unacceptable.

Agree with you.

No place in a game for that. No matter what anyone says it's not gonna make em have any class. I don't really care if they have no class but it'd be nicer if they took it somewhere else.

In working with Skuzzy I've seen him kill that kinda trash. But if he's not in the arena all the time, and who can be, then he can't catch em all. Especially with the two weekers who show and go.

What I really don't understand is some of these guys think so little of themselves that they actually think they're being cool.

More's the pity.

LOL I can see em now. How mom! Look at my new call sign!!!
