:aok    Man... I love it when rational people take responsibility for raising their own kids instead of letting the World do it for them. I'm the same way about everything internet related... I let my kid (male) Loose just as often as I drop him off downtown. Never.

Woof

I would then like to be able to load that list in my AH directory, and everytime I started the game those people would be blocked from my vox and from my text buffer.  Change the list every 2 weeks, but a person stays on the list more than that for each reported offense.  You should also be allowed to edit the list with whomever else you don't want to hear.

I would also like anyone on that list not to be able to receive a check 6 or a Salute from those who use the list.

Everyone who down loads that file has the isolated that potty mouth.  He will be limited in the check 6's he gets. He will be unable to communicate anything to that group of players.  That is, he will not see anything anyone who loads that list types or hear what he says.

Thus there is a penalty for being a potty mouth.  You will be a lot more isolated. A lot less part of the MA community.

Some will change  their behavior, some will leave. We win either way.

If you want to swear, do it on your squad channel, that is if your squad allows it.  Better yet, do all your cussing without hitting your transmit key.

I find throwing a plastic coffee cup at the wall quite therapeutic. I used to throw my joysticks, but that became too expensive.  My cat worked for a while, but she no longer comes near me when I play on the computer. :(

Right now you can only turn off channel 200 as I do. Or turn off individuals.

You are kidding right? Can you control what you hear at the mall? Can you control what you hear sitting at Wendy's having dinner?  I understand that some people are offended by bad language, but I bet as many or more so dont care.  This is getting a little out of control..

Some kids are darn good cyber-pilots. In fact, I think a high percentage of the *kids* want to learn so they can be competitive. In AirWarrior at least, most of the kids I knew were quite good. Can't say that about most of the adults I knew there. from elfie

I would agree that some of them are good pilots. Fubar is a great example, however I dont want to have to wach my mouth like I am a church. Fubar flies with my squad quite a but and when he is on my squad vox I do notice a big change in the conduct of my squad.  Should everyone have an ICON next to their name with their age??? I think that bringing kids into avation (I fly for a living) is a great thing.   The point of this is.. Why should something that only bother a small % of the people make eveyone else change the way they play the SIM that they pay for each month.

.squelch Skipz        That way I wont offend you when I get pissed that I just got HO'd.   That should make you all happy.    Make sure I get added to lthe list hat AK wants becuase I am human and I curse.

Sorry I am off my soap box. I am not trying to blast anyone or say they are worng. I am just using this forum to vent.  Thanks for your time.

In working with Skuzzy I've seen him kill that kinda trash. But if he's not in the arena all the time, and who can be, then he can't catch em all. Especially with the two weekers who show and go.

What I really don't understand is some of these guys think so little of themselves that they actually think they're being cool.

More's the pity.

LOL I can see em now. How mom! Look at my new call sign!!!

I'm not trying to call you out here ren, but I think your post is mildly ironic  =)

This topic is about people with curse or offensive slang words in their names, you have been a proponent for abolishing such things, yet your name is:  DamnedRen.

I guess it all matters as to where you want to draw the line, but "damn" and "b|tch" along with "skipnutz and hairynutz" are all on about the same level with me.

However, I really don't care either way how this goes, but if you have a vested interest in the discussion you may want to talk about it further  :D

We pay to play the sim, but that doesnt give us the right to talk however we like. This is a private forum (the game that is), and HiTech EXPECTS us to conduct ourselves as mature adults.

Mature adults show self control when they get angry. I know, I know....we all slip sometimes, including myself.

Just yesterday some guy cursed when he got killed in a tank on Furball Island. I piped up on vox and said "Language please, I have 2 young girls here". The guy responded by saying "I'm sorry Elfie, I'll watch it from now on" and then proceeded to apologize to my daughters on vox. I have absolutely NO problems with that scenario.

Otoh, there have been times when I have asked others to please watch their language and been ignored or had expletives directed at me for asking.

The first scenario is far more common than the second. More people than you think will voluntarily watch their language when they know kids are around. That kinda shoots the statement I quoted right in the foot.

I do not want more kids/children/under 18 years olds online. This is not because I want to use poor language and or have a great CPID.

This comment and the first one I quoted seem to contradict each other imo. Btw....if you are getting HO'd you need to learn to avoid the HO. It's actually quite easy and will save you some stress. :D

One last thing. As adults we have a responsibility to set the example for the younger players (and our kids). Is cursing and *off-color* CPIDs how you want to set the example? That's not the example I personally want to set.

See the key word there???

"Language please, I have 2 young girls here".

Maybe you should spend some time with them away from the game..

Btw....if you are getting HO'd you need to learn to avoid the HO. It's actually quite easy and will save you some stress.

Just an example...  but thanks for the tip..

This is not a personal attack on you Elfie  I don’t want anyone to think that, just remember that there are 2 sides to everything. I have a little girl too, and I wouldn’t want her to hear that kind of talk. The answer is I don’t play when she is awake and I use earphones. Secondly, I am in the military and I fly. I use bad words and sometime offend people. That is my right. Just like it is your to not like the language used in the game. We are all equals here and I just don’t think it is fair to change people CPID because someone doesn’t like them.  How about the JB's. Last time I checked they are named after a German Air Force term. They were Nazi's and maybe I am Jewish(im not but if I was) and that offended me, would we have to change every name in the squad???  See my point?? Cant we just play the great sim that they have built for us (and that we pay for) an just have some dang fun. This is getting a little crazy here.

I always get a kick out of how many people take the bait and start responding to moronic behaviour, which is usually meant to attract attention. If you ignore them -or squelch them - they might just go away.

Skuzzy - how's that permanent squelch list coming along? :p

For starters, no one has the *right* to behave in an offensive manner, or to use offensive language.

If you read some of my posts earlier in this thread you will see my reasons for posting this as oppossed to just sending an email.

Let's assume for a moment that I had sent an email. When SB's name got changed everyone would have thought it was HTC *at fault* for the name change. Would the outrage still be the same? Somehow I doubt it.

Secondly, so what if the JB's are named after a Luftwaffe unit. Do you realize that officers of the German armed forces were not allowed to belong to any political party? SS units are an obvious exception, but then the SS units had a different chain of command iirc than normal Wehrmact units did.

The reference to adults was a direct reference to you and I as adults. I in no way thought your post was an attack on me. You are discussing this without resorting to personal attacks and for that I respect you. (Unlike your 2 squaddies that felt the need to create shades accounts to post in this thread)

I do spend time with my kids away from the game. My older daughter (10) likes to watch me play. There is NO WAY she will let me play while she is watching if I am wearing headphones. That would be like watching one of those silent movies.

Now this one is just funny: She almost always wants to *race* reading the text buffer just as I enter a fight. One time I asked her why she only wants to race reading while I am fighting. Her answer: "Because you are distracted and I know I can win!" :rofl

If you are having difficulty avoiding HO shots give me a holler in the game and we can go to the TA or DA and I can show you how I avoid it. Doesnt work 100% of the time, but I rarely take hits on the merge.
