Cali residents pay 23k while ilegals pay 6??
« on: April 08, 2005, 10:46:26 AM »
So I heard on the radio this morning on the way to work that Mcclintock failed to get his bill through that would revoke the law that subsidizes illegals in state universities.

He was saying Cali residents and out of state residents pay 23k a year to go to a state university.

Illegals pay 6k.

What the hell is wrong with this state?

Thanks Gray davis you dolt.

Maybe instead of just punishing employers, we should look at punishing our government for enticing and supporting illegals.

It's not just Cali; Kansas gives them a break as well.

It passed both houses and is law.

If you can sneak in, avoid La Migra for three years while you go to High School or get a GED and say you "plan" to seek legal status... you get in-state rates.

The part I don't get is that apparently you have to admit you're an "illegal" to get this good deal. So.. if they admit to State authorities they're illegal, what's wrong with that picture?

The proposal extends in-state tuition — which is much lower than tuition for nonresidents — to illegal immigrants who have attended a Kansas high school at least three years and graduated or who earned a general educational development certificate in Kansas.

To receive the lower tuition, an immigrant would have to be actively seeking legal immigration status or plan to do so when eligible

You are beginning to see the point, perhaps.

The thread titled Mexican Army on standby has turned into a debate of *why* illegals come here. I posted links that show how much illegals cost the US gov't in unpaid taxes.

Giving illegals a break on tuition at major universities? Thats just plain retarded.

We have decent immigration policies.

They are just not enforced.

And, as I guess I've learned from some threads about it on this BBS, if you expect the immigration laws to be enforced you are a bigot and a racist.

And if you argue about being a bigot/racist you get relegated to the *Moron Bin* :D

*edit* Enforcement of current laws is what we need. Employers who hire illegals need to be punished and so do the people who come here illegally.

Well Silat, you've done it now! Come on, get over here in the Moron Bin with the rest of us! :D

Seriously though, illegals cost us billions every year.

I would say he has his facts wrong. Cali Residents and out of state residents do not pay the same amount. In-state tuition for residents (usually 3 years in state) is lower than people who just move to a state and go to college there. Looks to me like what he did was let illegals pay the same as the in-state crowd.

Even if this is true, why allow someone who shouldnt even be here in the first place to pay resident tuition? At worst they should be paying non-resident tuition and at best they should be deported.

Not "at best". They SHOULD be deported. You racist bigot, you.

;)

After all, they're only here illegally. What's wrong with that?

1)I would worry more about the illegals that are not trying to go to school. You know the one's that form the violent drug gangs and the like.

2) Illegals still pay state taxes when they make purchases so its not exactly the "free ride" that everyone seems to think it is. Although it is still close to one.

3) I wonder what the number of illegal immigrants in college in Cali is. How many illegals come here and go to college? I would guess its a very very small percentage.
