Trees absolutely KILL my frame rate...
« on: April 13, 2005, 04:06:50 PM »
With 2.03 in the Coral Sea terrain.

In the tower at Port Moresby looking inland
I'm seeing 13 FPS. Looking out to sea I'm at 99+.

If I ZOOM to max looking out to the mountains
I'm down to 3 FPS. Took off in B-26 and flew inland at low level....7 FPS.

This is not good! :(

Compare the number of trees on the user-made Coral Sea map to the ones on the MA maps. MANY less on the MA maps. I think the Coral Sea map was made with thick trees to make the old trees look like jungle. Now that there are new trees, billions upon billions of them showed up along with 2 "Missing Object" errors.

I do agree the variance in frame rate between looking at trees and not is disproportionate.

My set up cannot handle the special sea effects.....thats OK cos I just switch them off.

I enjoy reasonable FR when away from trees and would like to retain the quality of view I enjoy when playing away from trees.

I would not like to have to dumb down the whole game video quality just for the times I am near forested areas. Presently if combat gets close to such areas I simply bug out.

It would be neat if  (like the sea effects) I had a switch to reduce the very specific load trees put on my system.

I moved my "Level of Detail" slider to about the middle, Tilt.

That got my frame rates back to an acceptable level whilst
in the woods. I kept the other two sliders
at max. I didn't notice any adverse effects around
CV's or bases...just a thinning of the forrests.
