A GV "penatration & damage" question....
« on: April 16, 2005, 01:00:46 PM »
1st....

Kudo's for putting GV drones in the off line game mode....I'm amazed what a huge difference it made in a short time (maybe 20 min total "practice" with regard to both range recognition and "shot placement"....

This leads to two questions....both coming from a PZIV sortie this morning. I took up an "overwatch" position near an enmy spawn...I'm guessing 3.0 to 4.0 away. I engaged  2 PZ's as they manuevered toward our field...3 shots, 3 hits (~1.4-1.0) 2 kills. About 5 minutes later a third PZ took up a position at longer range (~2500)...hit him 1st shot and got richochet....went on to hit him about 12 or so more times...I got 6 or 7more richochets...and 4 "penatration" flashes before the 5 "hit" killed him.

This is the part that confuses me. I noticed with the drones I can kill a tiger from ~1200 or so (in PZIV) but never on the 1st "flash" always seems to take 3 "hits". I thought that as a rule penatration of the fighting compartment was almost always catostrophic. What does the "flash" represent and is the GV damage model cumulative with regard to penatration?

As of AH1 (I haven't tested AH2), you could see penetration flashes on enemy vehicles, but you would do no damage.  I assume this is modeling shells that have enough energy to do a 'partial' penetration-in other words, they defeat the armor, but it costs the shell ALL of its energy, and the shell did no damage whatsoever to the vehicle or crew.

AH1 gv modeling also had a damage threshold that you had to reach before the area you were penetrating took damage.  Typically, if you recieved damaging penetration hits from longer ranges, it took more hits to destroy the section you were hitting, be it the engine, turret, or main hull.

Once again, that is as of late AH1,  so this may have changed somewhat.

Hope that helps.

Depending on the range you are from the tank and the angle you are at play a big factor in success rate.

We teach all of these strategies at GV combat Manuvers in the DA.
