Ok, dumb question. Has anyone else lost interest in a Premier league club due to the complete loss of local flavor?
I too used to be a rabid Arsenal Supporter. I saw my first game at Highbury when I was 4 years old and still have the beloved Scarf I was given that day. I used to dutifully despise Spurs, and venerate the names of Adams, Wright, Seaman, Winterburn, etc... But then after the ascendency of Wenger, I began to notice that I was rooting for what was essentially a foreign team made up mostly of Frenchmen. Often I found myself in the uncomfortable position of rooting against decent local lads in favor of a bunch of overpaid French and Dutch prima donnas.
After Seaman finally retired, I packed in supporting them entirely. I still occasionally watch whatever Premier League games are on, but the thrill is gone. It's a money game now. The only local flavor left for many clubs seems to be the fan base.
Anyone else get disillusioned?
