Don't buy ww2ol yet!!!!!
« on: June 07, 2001, 07:55:00 AM »
I downloaded the patch after three failed attempts!  It did add more terrain but still looks poor compared to AH. The online play isn’t happening. A message from System just said that they are aware of the problems and are working on it... Hmmmm after 2 years! Anyway I feel as though I threw away 40 bucks. I'll give it a few days if no improvement back into the box and hopefully I can return it!

Give it time, remember how rough around the edges AH was in its infancy?

That's a good point, Rip. Some of us remember all the AH bashing that the Warbirds crowd did when AH was first released. I hope we can elevate ourselves to a higher standard and wish the Rats all the success in the world. In the long run, I'd like to see HTC, IEN and the Rats succeed.

Choice is good!  :)

That being said, as a consumer, I'm not going to plunk down any money for an account until they fix some of the more glaring techincal problems.

This morning I went to the beta page to check things out and it said 440 were online, so the online part is working.  I plan on buying it today at lunch, even though I realy don't "have" to yet, but these guys deserve some financial support.  They've been at this now for going on 2 years with NO income.  I plan on giving them the 40 for the game  :)   And the graphix are good, just wait until you've been in it a while.  There are all kinds of subtle nuances in there that just look fantastic.

It's amazing, the game hasn't been out for 24 hours yet and people are already doing everything they can to put it down.  Give the Rat's a chance people!!!!!!!!!

rgr that banana (all of it)

WW2O seems to be in the same shape as WB III was (is) when released. Difference is it costs $40 up front like it or not. With WB III I just deleted the directory until the day it is called "in production" or finished. With WW2O the CD rom makes a great coaster to set the drink on while downloading an 80mb update that will need to be burned onto yet another CD.

(I think the AH small download size has us all spoiled! <G> )

I'm more than  happy to let folks like Maniac here subsidize the development to something that is finally worth buying.

A good quote used by Rip, and I value its use.
"I have a white horse, you have a brown horse, but we both like riding!".

We can all understand deep down that after its first day of release to the public they are going to experience some teething problems, but I feel after I logged off lastnight after 6 hours the server was just over 500 players, to me that is an amazing feat.
Only a few of us here would remember when Aces High went public for the first time and the rough edges it had when released, and sure enough over time those edges are still being trimmed and smoothed to until they are happy with what they have.
This will go for Warbirds 3 and IL2 when they goes public, we could go on to say that EVE Online, Horizons, X-Tension Online will all follow the same path as what Aces High have done 19 months previous.

Give it time to mature and hopefully we wont be deciding which horse we feel is the better one to ride.  :)

Yup, AH was rough when it got out in open Beta (was there the first day, first hour). No smoke, no buff guns etc. It's improved ALOT over the past 2 years.

WW2OL is Eye candy for me, smokes from guns, different explosions depending on size of rounds and type of rounds etc etc.

It's a nice game but demanding, I can't play it on my computer. The online play is working fine, they just got their servers fludded with a couple of thousand players who are all eager to get started, tell me, what kind of a server would "like" this?

Like the rest said, give it time, the game has got alot of potential  :)

Ok, let's not forget something..

500 players online??

For crying out loud, they were bragging for months and months how there is a huge CB testing team (up to 5000 players online)
CRS was supposed to have 10 servers each capable of handling 10 000 players.  :D
Where are the testers now?

They claim over 20k copies have been bought.
So why are only 2.2% of players playing? Is that the amount of people with high-end computers in the crowd?

I suspect that the final reason is the combination of both inadequate server resources and very heavy system requirements for the end users.

Right now I think the server is capped at 500.

That's hearsay as I didn't go looking for the source document myself. However, I think it can be verified pretty easily.

Give them time. Hope that they succeed. Another WW2 game is a good thing.

It most definitely has issues at this point, however. Time will tell.
