better way to target 8" guns?
« on: May 05, 2005, 02:48:18 AM »
Well, I enjoy pounding bases off a cruiser, but it's a huge PITA to aim. I click on the clipboard to target and i never know if im gonna hit a building, or just hit the ground. I've gotten to where i can kinda tweak it, but i have no clue what range stuff is. mabey a range finder or something would help. the refire is too slow to "walk your shots" into a building, plus with the carrier moving as well there's no real way to have any accuracy hitting a target.

".wingman" a friendly (gives a white dar dot) and ask him to tell you when he's directly over the target of your choice.

When he says "now!"; click his dot....

Check out the use of land mode when pounding from off shore............

Also when zoomed in fully to clipboard Land mode can be deadly accurate under some circumstances

The icons are always placed in the same position relative to field objects.

In land mode the actual click point you use changes a little with respect to range and direction

In scenarios we  map enemy fields and overlay them on a pseudo target map. With this aid I can hit any field facility once every couple of shots at ranges of 20k.

yeah i know about land mode. how do you do this overlay? sounds like exactly what's needed to make this gunning better.

Its not a simple thing......here is the mapping  of a port were are about to destroy in a scenario frame on Saturday.

You have to go off line and use gods eye mode to determine where the shell craters land with respect to the icon and then merge the two images to create the mapping.........

Mapping is only truly valid for the direction and range you have set it for.......however it would be possible to make a map that can be used from all directions and ranges if the player could use judgement to modify his click points.

Use firing buttons to move around. Adjust throttle for movement speed.

I use dead reckoning. I look at the target from zoom, then zoom out again. I set my elevation to where I think the shells will land, and I fire. I then lower guns and zoom in again and watch where the shells fall. I adjust plus or minus, zero in and fire for effect.
