Well, the ole headset is about crapped out, lot of duck tape and wires starting to short.
Any opinions out there as to a decent headset?

get a good set of sealed headphones....

goto the local radio shack, get some "optimus" (made by Koss branded for rad shack)

then get a decent ($10 logitech) pedastal mic.

VOX will sound better transmitting, and game sounds will be better than any wimpy headset you can buy, real bass response, and crisp highs
I don't know what to put here yet.

I love my Altec Lansing AHS-502's ($10.00 on ebay). Best headset I've owned next to my work $200.00 Plantronics work headset. I had a good  Andrea headset that lasted for 7 years but it finally gave up the ghost and I havent been able to find another so I went with the Altec Lansings and havent been disapointed!

Have the Optimus now. Just worn out.
Sound was great. Found the Mic vol a little low.
Looking at the Altec and logitec digital on BEST BUY.

not  really 73, I am not trying to argue with you, but the Pantronics90 series for $20 bucks + the 4.99 shipping  blow away alot of the higher price competition.  I have headsets ranging from 50 to 200+  bucks and as for crisp clean highs and bass these plantronics blow away my KOSS , AKG,  Sony and a # of others, and the mic is of good quality.  If you have not tryed them yet  don't knock em til ya do. For the price I was amazed. plus have vol control and mic mute switch on the cord with a cord clip to clip to your shirt etc.....

but to each his own YMMV ( well they come close to my AKG set )

each has their opinion. though doing home recording, and having been in a studio with good headphones, i have never heard anything that sounded as clear, and without full ear cover, and sealed, the bass just isn't there in my opinion.

Saw the .audio 90 reviewed on one of the gaming/hardware shows. They gave it good marks. I may check them out too. The Altec Lansing over the ear set I have is currently making my ears hurt. These look pretty comfy, and not quite as flimsy. Here's the link to Newegg.

Plantronics90 OEM  is cheaper  than retail  at newegg

same as hub posted, but cheaper because of OEM  vs Retail

Darn. I have the Audio 90 headphones, at 60€ about 2 years ago. That's something like 80$...
They're really good headphones, no complaints from me. My voice is clear to everyone else and I have good sound.
