went to pick up my laptop yesterday and the screen came off and broke.

they say its not covered under the 300 dollar warranty that i purchased, even though it was thier defective hinge that caused the issue, but they are happy to give me 100$ of the purchase of a new laptop.

screw em.  im done.

any suggestions on a new brand?

That sucks.  I've been really happy with my T41 Thinkpad, and their newer models have gotten even better.

Haven't had need to use their support, so I can't offer first hand experience, but I've heard good things, for what it's worth.

My laptop has the laptop RAGE whatchamacallity chipset, so it's pretty screamin' for a laptop.  It supports like dual 1600x1200 or something monitors, so I can't call the onboard graphics anemic.

You can always check out the Toughbook series (IBM?) if they still make them. Slightly pricier than normal, but with a magnesium case, it'll shrug off small arms fire and still boot into windows. My only gripe with them was, while perfect for what I needed them for, was the weight. I think the positivies outweighed the negatives though.

Panasonic makes the Toughbook, and they're cool, but spensive.  I wonder how comfortable they are to use, considering the steps they take to protect the keyboard from moisture and stuff.
