WEP underpowered?
« on: May 26, 2005, 03:40:33 AM »
I always found the WEP in Aces High abit underpowered, the Luftwaffe planes and the P-47's WEP both sound good, but for planes like the F4U or P-51...I can hardly even HEAR a change in manifold...

I used to play MCFS II, Pacific Theatre. There, the WEP could really pull you trough that last bit of the Loop, or make that turn a little tighter.

I never experienced any massive performance increase by hitting that 'p' button.

I'm with klink.

Engine sounds 40 % wind 90 % (better able to judge speed in a fight)

Engine is just a low hum.

I crank up my engine sound.  That way I drown out everyone around me screaming like little girls.

Isn't that kind of gaming the game?  I'm sure the Pilots in WWII would have loved to go into "quiet" mode too....not very cool or realistic though (I know, it's a game not a sim bla, bla, bla).  Is it that much more important to win even if you are using every little flaw in the game to do it?

So now I have to fly at 50k with my engine sounds turned down in an LA7 so I'm good? How many other people do that kind of stuff? Any other tips I should know about?

Woof

Stay on topic gentlemen. I find the WEP underpowered, it has nothing to do with the sound actually.
When hitting P, your plane should go beserc, this is not seen with many planes.

I doubt it even helps much in a fight

Just so it's said...

You're not going to ever hear an increase in manifold pressure.

WEP (War Emergency Power) is simply put...water injection.

Water is injected into the fuel/air mixture to retard detonation.  How and why it increases horsepower is for an engineer to tell you...as a pilot it's not your concern you simply say "it just does" :)

Don't think of it as an afterburner on a fighter jet.  It's not.  It's not some mystical magic power boost, it gives you a boost in horsepower for a very limited time.  It's not going to allow you to perform any incredible maneuvers or make the flight envelope expand.

I think too many players think of WEP as an afterburner and if you do that...you're sure to be disappointed.

If you are high you're an alt monkey.

If you're in a ground vehicle, a Roach.

If you're in a 5" in a battle fleet, you're in a 'Tard gun and you are a no skill dweeb.

In a fast aircraft, you're a runner unless you try to turn with a turner, then you're O.K., dead, but O.K. because somebody got to kill you.

Don't fly up a bombers six..

Don't use altitude to your advantage or you are a cherry picker.

Use of flaps is standard combat procedure.

Don't turn the carrier if people are taking off, they tend to get irate.

Don't fly the SpitV or LA7 a.ka. Dweebfire or LaLa unless you are really good, then it's O.K.

Don't fly bombers or the *ahem* real fighter pilots will call you a toolshedder.

Concider a six call a courtsey, not a right.

There is always someone higher, faster, or luckier.

i dont got enough perkies as it is and i like upen my lancs to kill 1 dang t 34 or wirble its fun droping 42 bombs

It's not always water injection. It is sometimes simply an overboosting of the engine(s), sometimes with a corresponding increase in RPM.

For example, the P-38s do not have water injection.
