I tell my kids life is like baseball. if you put out maximum effort in the beginning and knock it out of the park, you can take a leisurely stroll around the bases. if, however you just give the batting enough effort to get on base, you'll end up having to run your butt off, steal, claw, slide and crawl through the dirt just for a chance at making it home safe.
as I get older though it seems more like a video game. as you do better and finish yet another level in grand style, they just keep giving you bigger and harder problems at an ever increasing speed until you finally die. the points you rack up don't really mean anything in the end, and they don't even give you a reset button.
