one for when the ***** hits the fan

one you can carry somewhat discretely

one to strap on when you can't hide it anyway.
in .45LC or .41 mag the only 2 calibers for a wheel-gun IMO.

and I couldn't find a decent pic of a 1903A4,
but trim away a lot of stock and you have a good
dependable rifle for when you feel the need to
reach out and touch something/one.

I've seen fancier guns. ones that fired more rounds or
higher ROF, higher velocities, hit a bit harder, whatever.

but there are 4 that, no matter what abuse I put them through,
without fail- go boom when you pull the trigger,
don't when you don't, and the bullet always ends up
more or less where I intended.

those are the three most important things to me.
the rest of the facts are just for the stat keepers.

Having said that, I used to have a pump action like capt apathy. Stricter laws came in after the Dunblane shootings and I handed it in to the police.

I have a .22 semi auto for bunny popping and an over/under 12 guage for game etc.

Still looking for one. But this is the one I'd pick. Model 97 trench gun. Solid, reliable, holds 8 rounds, has bayonet that can double as a small sword, and packs a punch that will take down the biggest and baddest and leave a wound the size of the Grand Canyon.

Spittin image of my baby. Rossi .357 magnum with the 4 inch barrel. Rubber grips for sure handling, enough one shot stopping power to take just about anyone down. This, with the shotgun and a speedloader is all I need.

Both guns are ultra reliable, have lots of stopping power, easy to find ammo for, and dont take up alot of space. Right now I have a Mossberg 500 taking the place of the Winchester above, but as soon as I can find me a good M97 trench gun I'm there.

Yes thats the FN. I used em a few times during wargames against the Territorials (they're like our National Guard). Big stick make big boom. I always remember them running around with M-16s that sounded like lil pop guns and our SLR's sounding like howitzers. The first time I fired an SLR at night the muzzle flash just about blinded me LOL.

My old man had a friend who was in the SAS in Vietnam, he said the US troops were always envious of the Kiwi and Aussie SLRs as the SLR was a 1 hit weapon. 1 hit and charlie wasn't getting back up... and hiding behind trees didn't help either.

Gixer, never got around to getting my firearms license, at the time it kicked in the Army well selling SLRs off for like $200, kicked myself on missing that oppotunity.

edit: I also grew up on a FN Browning .22 Pump Action, can't find a piccy of it though, think its dated from around 1920ish.

I liked the FN FAL (fusil automatic leger)

It was a point and shoot thing .

Did it fail to enter production or was it pulled from active service? I havent seen any in real life or on TV

When and where were you in the Army? Which intake Waiouru? I was in 88 to 91 spent some time in Burnham and then mainly based at 5th Movement Sqd Hobsonville.

SLR's were gone by the time I joined, it was M16's Steyr's and C5's. Though I think the Air Force armoury still had SLR's.
