Well then... The Longest Day is a mighty fine movie, but Windtalkers may be the worst WW2 movie ever made.

Windtalkers was the biggest pile of crap ever made about WW2.

You would think everytime a grenade went off a F4  was dropping napalm on the same spot.

john woo is a hack,  and that movie was sooo lame I can not fathom how it got made.

You want good WW2?

The  longest day is good. Band of brothers is better. Saving private ryan is a good one mostly.

Band of Brothers
Paths of Glory
Dark Blue World (Love Story is practical, but not needed :))

There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Entertainmant, or Historical Accuracy?

For entertainment, Von Ryans Express; Bridge over the Rive Kwai, The Great Escape, Midway, Tora, Tora, Tora, They Were Expendable, Sands of Iwo &  Run Silent, Run Deep.

For Historical accuracy, Band Of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan.

Somewhere in the middle, Enemy at the Gates.

Best flying scenes.. without doubt; Deep Blue Sea.
The price of Freedom is the willingness to do sudden battle, anywhere, any time and with utter recklessness...

...at home, or abroad.

Tora Tora Tora took great pains to be historically accurate.   Probably the most accurate listed here?

I'll go with Pvt Ryan or Band of Brothers.   12 o'clock High for air war, on Gregory Peck's performance.   Not enough air combat footage for me though.

What about Memphis Belle?   That's gotta give Windtalkers a run for its money?

Funny thing about Memphis Belle.  Talking to Vets I've gotten different reactions.  A 91st BG Pilot vet hated it.  A 301st BG Tail gunner who was shot down and litterally rode the seperated tail down and survived, thought it great.

My favorite war movie would probably be "Battleground".  Done in 1948 I think, it isn't the show it all movie that SPR is, but it somehow tells a great story without it and doesn't glorify war at all building it's story around a unit from the 101st during the Battle of the Bulge.

Favorite just for entertainment, and NOT historical accuracy is "Air Force" starring John Garfield, about the mythical B17D "Mary Ann".  They take off on a peaceful day in December 41, fly into Pearl Harbor during the attack, leave for the Phillipines, stopping in at Wake first.  Once in the Phillipines they fly a mission, get shot up, and have to belly land it.  The Phillipines are going to be lost and with it the wreck of the Mary Ann, but no!  The crew, minus the dying pilot rebuild her and take off at the last minute, only to spot a Japanese task force.  While calling for help, they lead the attack and sink it, before finally having to belly it in on the beach afterwards.

Ahh what fun :)  Great film of early 17s too.
