A bundle of joy arrives at FokerFoders' house
« on: June 05, 2005, 02:46:14 PM »
I got a new computer to play Aces High with.

An Athlon 64 3200+  with a PCI Express slot ATI X700 video card with 256 MB of video ram.

All in all it sure makes the game a lot more playable than using my laptop.  My laptop is a 2.8 Ghz Pentium with a 64 MB NIVIDIA card (not shared ram).  I had to turn the  graphics everything down to minimum to play.  I was often choking on 10 or so fps in a fight.

I can now see a lot more. As I am now at 1200 / 960 resolution and my sliders set for about mid detail.   Getting well over 50 fps.  I seem to only be using about 20 of the 256 MB of memory.

I also hammered a LA7 in an Ostie, that I am sure I would not have hit in my laptop,  I got 3 head-on pings before he was blown up.  I got several other kills in the Ostie that probably wouldn't have happened on my laptop.  I took the Ostwind as I kept getting disco’s and switching to TCP.  I must have some Internet firewall stuff on as I keep getting disco’d.  I thought I had it all turned off.  All in all fun, but I only played a bit last night.  I hope to get the firewall stuff sorted out soon.

I also was able to get more aggressive, as I could actually see the other planes.

All in all it is like a new game J

Sounds very cool!   Sometimes you may have a setting for (disconnect is not in use or idle for a certin amount of time) check that. I'm guessing your on dsl or cable?  I'm dial up so that setting for disconnect really messed me up, not to sure if other connects have that, I'd think they would.

New computers always have something you have to hunt down and kill,  before it does what you want.  :p ,..  But once its tuned up they make your flying & killing world much better for sure.( not so much easier maybe , just better)  lol!!  Of course nothing makes my flying better no matter what I do  :p

Pci express video is new to me, I'm interested in how that works compared to agp cards.  (as far as performance basiclly, no technical jargon guys that will just confuse me,  :p  )   Is it worth the upgrade if your redoing a computer??

H5 on your new PC!!!!!!!!

ps....  Thank You!! For your" expressed written consent to use your copyright  protected" Quotes!!!  :)

No name yet, but it is sweet :)

Laura?  (Laura Croft maybe?)

Who was the chick in Bill Bill?  Uma Thurman was the actress.

(Although Daryl Hanna always takes my breath away)

Yeh, Black Mamba was Umas' code name.

"Black Mamba" it is :)

Sigh,  Uma makes me wish I was 30 years younger ;)

And thanks for the encouragement Tactic, I'll get it sorted out. :aok

I'm 55 years old. At my age, there are  lots of good looking Gramdmothers. :D

But when I was 18, a 27 year old looked way ancient.  I was amazed when I found out that most 27 year olds still  had all their teeth.   :lol :rofl

It is not worth it to go to the PCI express slot at this time.  Most games don't support the features.  In a year or so that will change.

If you are going to upgrade anyway, then a mobo with PCI Express should be your option.  And the new NIVIDIA PCI Express SLI compatable mother boards would be the way to go if you are really into screaming graphics.

If you just likeAces High, and the occasional box game like I do, then a single PCI express card should be all you need.
