Isnt that the point?
Isnt the beautiful thing about this country, that you can have whatever opinion you want? WHY are you trying to "rason with them"? Why would they believe you when you try to convince them that YOU are right, and that they should stop thinking like they do. I would hate to have an argument with you in person. You seem like one of those ONE-WAY conversationalists who puts all his effort in trying to "reason" (I.E: convince them) with those that do not agree with you. Sounds pretty comunist to me!

If you were in charge of the country, how would you get rid of these people?

Regarding war ? Heck i have no problem with it at all.

Some minor details i might not agree on, but overall i'm really happy it's going as smoothly as it does.
Which kinda puts a chink in your previous statements grouping all us lefties together...
See, i didn't get a chance ( didn't drive to consulate fast enough ) to vote in last polish elections, if i did, i would have voted for Social Democract, who are nothing more then ex communists.
Am I a communist ? Nope. Wrong anwer.
How confusing is that, eh ?

I'm not anti globalization, but i am anti trade in some respects.
I don't sign up to "exploit them for their own good" theory, no matter how nice it looks on paper.

See all those contradictions ?
By the token of your previosu posts, you equate people in your mind based on particular traits or opinions.
It's a bad habit.
At least you base it on people's opiniosn not skin color, but underlying philosohy remains the same.

Stereotypes + hate = bad things happend.

As for your age, you were born in 1979 then ?

I'm 1974, born in good old Comunist poland, i regime i've seen and rememeber are nothing more then highly westernised leftovers of ex so called "glory".
Heck, i remember very little details of hard core communism, it fell apart before my eyes as i entered my teenage years ( 13+ ).
That means that you were 8 at that time ?
Which kinda makes me sceptical as to your personal experiances with it.

Mind you, yugoslavia had a cooking mess afterwards, but i'm not sure of commies can be blamed for that one.

Now, don't go interpreting what i wrote above as my endorsment of communism attempt to excuse it.
Let history be a judge. I just want to know what was your personal experiance with it that made you feel so strongly about it.

Please note personal portion.

Well I always think that the smart person is the one who shuts up and listens while the others babble on about their opinions. Then briefly, opens his mouth, says a few words, and the other person is left speechless and confused, trying to recover and say something "smart", while subconsciously doubting their own ideals. This self-doubt causes anger, wich is projected (to the amusement of others) to the other person verbally, and in rare cases, physically.

I would have loved to see Grunhertz having a chat with my late philosophy teacher. He would have pretended to be a comunist just for the sake of arguement, and an angry teary eyed Grunherz stuttering trying to find words, ends up shouting "diddly you, commie scum"

Sorry to say it, but I gotta be honest: it shows that you were raised in a comunist country, Grun. You have democratic and righteous ideals, but deep down in your subconscious core, you have the escence of a "commie". And I see that a lot in this country. People need to double check their own attitudes, feelings, ideas, and even sense of humor, before they go outside to try to force others to think like they "should".

Yes I bet there's something to that Animal, my consciusness hate communism in a subconsciously communist way.

Basically the whole thing deals with my shock of the number of people in the USA, especially young people who for some reason find the disaster of communism very appealing.

Maybe its the SF Bay Area, any of you guys from around the USA have different experiences?

Here in PR, there are some extremist wannabe US-hating groups. Not many, and they do not come nearly as close to the neo-nazies or what you describe as the commie boys in your college.

Anyways, these are just naíve kids with inmature and romantic ideals of "freedom" and blah blah blah. They hate everything U.S (even though most of their scholarship is payed by the US, and they gladly take the money) and go around preaching the 'evils' of the USA ways. They use pretty hostile words and have bigger mouths than they can afford to back up. I dont like their toejam opinions. But I know what they are: handsomehunkes trying to find a way to be rebels.
Now, I can go and argue with them all day long. I will never change their minds. All I could do is get them to hate me and try to do something stupid. But I wont waste my time, because I know that their ideals are hollow, and are just a face for their angry inside trying desperately to disagree with everyone and be the underdog.

So I just walk by and ignore them.
Because even if my opinions are completly different than theirs, lowering myself to their level and doing an opinion spit-match with them will only make me what they are. And isnt that what they want?

I think what this country needs, is to really, genuinely, understand democracy, and to love it. Then we will be on our good way.

We are fighting the Taliban for a good cause in my opinion. But we must control our minds and focus on what we stand for. Because if you are blinded by rage, you are just like the extremist taliban; only on the other side of the fence.

Now, who was that guy who said:

"I may not like what you are saying, but I will die fighting for your right to say it"

..or something. whatever. as if. gotta go watch MTV

Yep the people you describe are exactly like the loonies at my school they curse the USA at every turn yet live happy fat lives on the US economy and US cultural and social and economic benefits.

Most of friends and family tell me to ignore them for exactlty the same reasons you said Animal. I honestly try but is difficult as Im unfortunatly a bit stubborn and hot temperd when it comes to something I have strong ideas about.

Its something I have to figure out as i go on in life.

Rip, tell me what is wrong with the reasons the objective-not-hopping-to-bandwagon fish presented on that cartoon? I find them to be quite accurate and truthful. Number might not be 100% right but the basic idea is.

Bravo Animal, Grun and FdSki.

WTG men.. you three have just demonstrated the power and strength of our great ideals..

In adversity, Common Ground... amazing; ain't it?

One depressing thought tho... I'm depressed, having discovered that Animal has a brain.

My son... you may come home now.  :D

Honest fuel to the fire burning:

I think over 50% of the world population symphesices with the fish without flag.

I am unknown for sure about whether those facts are all true or not but a large part of the world considers them valid. Not implying that what happened on 9-11 was justified but those are certainly several reasons which contributed to them...

Grun,

You moved from a communist country to San Francisco?  That just sends my irony meter off the scale.    :)

It requires a profound reexamination of the nature of human civilization. For much of our history, humanity has been trapped in vicious cycles of hatred and reprisal. We must redouble our efforts to break this cycle and transform distrust into trust. I believe that this is the most effective and fundamental antidote to terrorism and its repugnant worship of violence.

It is the function of evil to divide; to alienate people from each other and divide one country from another.

This thread shows it clearly...
