Hehe, don't take it so hard, Jarhead, kid's got brains after all!!

Congrats and good luck, Smidsy.

Look me up when you get off active duty, if you do.

My Uncle was a SeaBee in the Pacific in WW2 as well. Good luck to you.

my grandfather joined the navy durring WWII because he "was too old to be drafted and too young to stay home." so he has been very supportive of me.

my dad was initialy pissed, then he got over it, then he found out i signed up for 8 years, then he found out that was the standard enlistment length, then he got pissed when he found out a seabee is a dangerous job. and now he is over it again.

Hey bootcamp!  Don't forget these little nuggets o' wisdom:

1.  Fallopian tube does NOT exist in the paintlocker.
2.  Mail-buoy watch.  Don't fall for it.
3.  Saltpeter may or may not be in the food.  Hehe.
4.  "Ricky" Sunday is actually only about 4 hours long, not a full day.
5.  Nothing's more comfortable than a pair of broken-in boondockers.  No, seriously, I ain't lying.
6.  They don't "tack-on" crows anymore.  GD PC Navy.
7.  You're first liberty in a foreign country does not mean walking around the city yelling, "Where's the woman with the donkey bar?!?!?"
8.  Every sailor on that other ship in port is the enemy.  That is until the real enemy starts shooting first.
9.  If it doesn't need paint, you're gonna paint it anyway.
10.  Listen to your chief, he/she has years of wisdom to help you.  When he/she walks away, do it your way.

Assuming no JROTC, he would have gotten PO3 after ST school.  Now, it looks like he'll be an E2 after TIR is met after bootcamp.

have you signed up yet, IE: actually been to MEPs and taken the oath?

If not talk to your recruiter about all the benies you can, especialy an enlistment bonus.  The services are giving out mad cash right now for recruiting and why should you be left out of it?

Don't worry bout him he wants you to sign up more than you do and will usually bend over backwards for a good canidate.

Good luck either way.  READ YOUR ENTIRE CONTRACT FRONT AND BACK EVERY SINGLE WORD BEFORE YOU SIGN IT.  IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT IT ASK!

took the oath on march 12. CB was one of the career choices so the transition will be easy. scored 81 on the ASVAB...mostly because of the electronics section because my dad has an obsession with vacum tubes.

Congrats!  It will be hard work under some brutal conditions, but you will learn a ton of transferable skills for when its time to get out.
