Hell, Boroda; I betcha Russians make real good shoes.

You are too optimistic

In Soviet times buying good footwear was a big problem. As usual - there was nothing good at stores but almost everyone got decent imported shoes.

I had a Fiat 124 when I was in Germany.. was a better off road car than the jeeps that chased me. Doesn't mean we're all gonna keep Fiat knockoff's to tool the interstate or autobahn with.
I am surprised that "classic" Ladas are capable of going up to 150km/h in a highway... In Soviet times riding faster then 120 was a very rare thing. I remember riding 120 in a Volga when I was a kid, I was scared to death, and that was on a very good Domodedovo highway...

One wonders why the Asian car market hasn't blossomed in Russia.. one would think that a cheap car that runs and has windows without cranks would be popular over there...
Daewoo Nexia assembled in Uzbekistan is a "people's car" now.
The problem is that our beloved Party and government rise custom tariffs for foreign cars, especially used ones, to "save national automobile industry". That's why that loosers can introduce a new model every 10 years, and sell their crap for such money.

Unless you seem to be a bit shy on paved highways?
"Paved" gets an absolutely new meaning in Russia

There are many places where non-paved sand roads are better then paved, like at Valday (upper Volga).
Many roads here are broken as if some tank regiment went over them. And some really need to be "flattened" by tanks
