lazs is not right...he is very wrong, and very rude.  He should be more respectful of other cultures, sports etc.  He should behave in the same way he expects others to behave when discussing America...but he doesn't.  He's a very naughty boy.

I used to play soccer. I also coached at various times throughout my life.

I now DESPISE it. The fans and the organizers are among the arrogant and obnoxious of ANY sport I've EVER dealt with, stick and ball, or motorsports. Our local soccer club is among the worst.

I guess i just think it lacks contact. Furball neer saw the euro league. I did watch the USA womans team beat everyone up though that was good fun to watch. Who is the 14 year old superstud soccer player? What team does he play for? i think it would be fun to watch a 14 year old run around older players.

you talking about Freddy Adu? never seen him play, hes older than 14 though.  IIRC he is Ghanian with an american citizenship

And that about sums it up for me.

actually baseball is very world recognized. It is approprietly called world series. Here in america soccer or football is usually played by little kids or high schoolers who are afraid to get hit in football. at least thats how it was at my high school. also basketball players played to stay in shape.

and yes furball freddy adu. he isn't to much older then 14 and he is a rich little kid.

PS when i played soccer in gym it was fun but watching it is a headache.

Having lived in US and in Europe, i assure you that people in US are more aware of existance of Europian American Football League, than they are in europe :)

Other than the US and Canada what other countries play in that so deservedly named World Series?

Regardless of what is done in America millions upon millions of people play the real football all over the world.  They don't do it because they are afraid of getting "hit in football":  1.  Because football is not a hitting game...American Football is, and 2.  American Football isn't played in most of those countries.

It is a big world out there...before you harp on about other parts of it maybe you should go and take a look yourself.

Baseball

Just like Football or american football, kind of boring sports to watch, unless you know what's happening on the field.

well it is an olympic sport and there are baseball players in the MLB from all over the world. thats why it is world series. I never said people don't play it, i know they play it i just don't get what is so exciting about watching it. you need to take an advil and settle down abit mr curval. the real football is played in US and consists of pads and pigskin. north america just isn't a big soccer continent i guess.  if most of these countrys tried out football they would love it!

curval... I would never be so rude as to act the way I expect others on this board to act when discussing America.   I just don't have that kind of envy and hate in me.

Plus...  I am a sensitive and empathetic person by nature..

Americans only like games which they put under the banner of "World Series" (when no other countries are participating) and in which scoring involves adding around 10 points to the score (they like big numbers) Heaven forbid that they have to compete on a level playing field! The 1994 world cup was interesting - I think the US made good hosts.

The trouble with the Gridiron game is that every time it gets going it stops! If you get what I mean. Watching it is interminable. Games go on for too long. The action only happens in brief bursts and its all geared to advertising and commercial breaks. Many years ago I got taken to see the Patriots play in Boston. It was certainly an experience but In truth I enjoyed it about as much as I enjoy our cricket. Ie not a lot. Its only saving grace is its very tactical and stuff but so is Chess and that makes rubbish spectating too!

Football is 90 mins of non stop action, its tactical, full of larger than life characters totaly intense especialy when part of the crowd at your teams big matches ( sadly too few with Ipswich these days! ) and a great game to play watch and be part of. You can go for a couple of hours yell your head off and then go down the pub and speculate about what might have been. Roll on the real World Cup competition.

The downside is that Big money men who give sod all about the game are taking it over to milk for profit. Malcom Glazier anyone? And the players salary's are obscene! Still I'd take football over gridiron any day.

What you said was that in America people who usually play the game are either kids or people who are afriad of getting hit in "football".

"the real football is played in US and consists of pads and pigskin."

No.  The REAL football is played worldwide and Americans call it soccer.

soccer is a cheap way to get kids active and to reduce obesity, all you need is a ball and two feet and a piece of grass. for that is its universal appeal from ghettos to gated communities throughout the world.

curval you're missing the obvious, the main reason american sports thrives is that they enjoy the socialist concept of redistribution of wealth.

why would anyone (except maybe rioters) watch sports? Is your life so empty or... do you just have bad weather?
