Yea... Everyone wants to make a statement but "nothing to see here, move along" makes the statement that I want to make. That you can't hurt our nation. You can attack us, you can destroy our stuff, you'll even get lucky sometimes and kill a bunch of us, but you can't hurt the nation.
Unfortunately we've shown the exact opposite, by our over-reaction to the threat. We're spending 90% of our efforts on less than 1% of the threat. How many grandmothers in wheelchairs weilding blunt scissors have ever attempted to do anything except keep breathing while on an airplane?
We're doing to ourselves what the terrorists could never do. Had we gone on as before inside our own country in conjunction with our proactive efforts outside the country, we'd be better off and a whole lot richer as well. Instead, we've hired goons to implement a security policy based on fear. And it's not even fear of another attack, rather it's the fear our politicians have of the polls that would shred them if something happened, no matter what they actually did to try to prevent another attack. So at least now, if we suffer another attack, the politians can say "we went totally overboard on security, even violating the constitution based on emergency war powers, and we STILL got attacked so it's NOT MY FAULT. Who cares. There are always more politicians so it baffles me why we've let our congressmen get away with this. We only vote for the pres every 4 years, but every congressional district has a vote at a minimum every 2 years, and we're voting back in the ones who passed the so-called patriot act and support making it a permanent intrusion on our liberties. Don't blame the president... He doesn't make those laws and he didn't force congress to come up with that stuff. The President is responsible for taking the war to the enemy, and congress is responsible for taking the war to our own citizens...
You can guess who I hold responsible.
