download manager? wtf? (with firefox)
« on: July 07, 2005, 10:32:13 PM »
I'm trying to get the firefox FlashGot extension working.  I've figured out that I need to get a "download manager" program for the flashgot extension to work right.  Wtf is a download manager, and why would I want one?  What is wrong with doing the right click/save target as thing?  I can understand that it lets you resume broken downloads and pause and restart them, but I've never really needed those features.

What flashgot is looking for as a download manager is apparently different than what firefox has.

I downloaded, installed it. Got same msg as you. Right clicked on flashgot, flashgot options, more options.

Click on the download manager scroll bar,
its looking for things like

Getright, Leechget, internet download accelerator, downloader 4x, etc.

In short, a 3rd party download manager.

You may also find this page helpfull.

BTW I have always stayed away from so called download "accelerators" and managers because I've heard they can seriously screw up your net connect for flying AH. I could be wrong, it could just be a myth.

Good luck!

You need to install FlashGot before you can use the Firefox FlashGot manager.  The manager just provides a convenient Firefox interface for using the 3rd party download program.  At least that's how I remember it working.
