to all both friendlies and enemies alike.  Sorry I haven't been around lately but like an idiot, I broke my ankle trying to slide into 3rd base while playing a company softball game back in mid June and have had to under go surgery to stabalize my ankle. I have 3 more weeks of recuperting before I can put any weight on it.  Also I'm experiencing some technical difficulities trying to get Cable installed in the computer room in my new house, Damn split levels.  I'm still trying to decide whether it's worth the effort to trying to get a dedicated cable line installed or try some other method such as a wireless network or DSL.  In the mean time, until my ankle starts throbbing, i'm trying to get some off-line practice in so I can  stay some what proficient.  Any way hope to see you all soon and it won't be too long before you see me on your six :D

Hope you have a fast recovery!

As far as cable modem goes....I've had one for the past 5-6 years. They should be paying to bring it to you, including installation within your home. Not you. That's part of the thier business. Talk with them. Imho it's the best.

Meddog,
I'm kinda in the same situation - been on medical leave at home for going on 2 years.  If it wasn't for AH, I'd have gone nuts by now.
Anyway, if you can, dedicated cable line works good.  I've used the wireless router, but found that in my house, whenever someone used the microwave, I lost AH connection.  Seemed like everytime I decided to up a perked plane, someone needed to make a cheese crisp! :)
Good luck on your recovery!

I would have to disagree. Before I got into my current line of work 1 1/2 yrs ago, I worked for Cox Communications as a field technician.

Cox, and every other utility for that matter, is only responsible to the 'D-Mark' on the side of your house.  In some cases, the 'drop' (line from house to pedistal) is your responsibilty as well. In certain sales promotions, Cox would include the installation of additional outlets inside your home. Activation of existing outlets is part of the deal though. If its not there to activate, they most likely will charge you to put it there. When I was there, an outlet install was 50 clams. If I had to get in the attic and drop the line through an interior wall and fish it out, that was an extra 30 clams. Like I said, alot of promotions included the installation of new outlets but don't presume it's their responsiblity. If you moved and just transfered your service, I would doubt you could get any sort of freebie. Your not a new customer so they arent offering you anything for free.  I would do it yourself, it's quite easy. Well maybe not with a broken ankle.

As far as isolating the line for HSI. This should be done for you during installation. Policy requires for the HSI to be the first stop from the D-Mark for the signal. I usually used a 2 place splitter that would allow no signal loss for the HSI then send the signal to the Tv's with slight loss.  HSI is very finicky though. Too much signal is bad. The range is small and it was our job to land that signal strength within the range for optimal results for the customer.

Not to stick up for the evil cable comany, just wanted to throw in my 2 cents.

Get well soon, I need another plane on my 6.

You're right as I suppose it's the Company doing the work and what part of the Country you happen to live in.

I should have qualified my statement by saying RoadRunner brought the line to my house using a box on the outside wall, then they ran a cable along the outside wall from the box up to the second floor. They then ran the line through my attic and installed it into my spare "computer" room through a cable outlet. They then cut an additional 12 ft length of cable and installed it from the outlet to my computer.

No charges were levied for all this work.

I guess Cox has different standards and if people are willing to pay for the same service others get free, who am I to say it's wrong?

Sorry Ren if I came off as anything but informative. No harm meant.
If that was a new service as in you didnt have RoadRunnr  service at another address or just add the outlet to your existing service at your present residence, I could totally agree with you. Cox almost always has a special for running outlets on new subscribers. But it's us shmos who move accross town and transfer service to the house with absolutley no inside COAX lines that have to pay the damn company big $$ to poke the wire through the wall.

I just wanted to convey to meddog that fact so that he expects it and is not suprised. Thats all. I would never discourage against cable, especially with DSL as your alternative. But thats just MHO.

I would however, like to add that meddog take as much time as he can to heal as it gives me a better chance to fly around and crash into trees without getting my arse shot off....

For a non-contact sport I think softball has the most injuries per game of any of them.

My brother-in-law's shin bone is held together by a number of pins after splitting the bone vertically after some knob slid into second base with his cleats aimed squarley at his knee.  He missed low and broke the shin bone instead.

Ouch.  I hate it when people intentionaly try to hurt people.  That is totaly uncalled for.  I beleive in being competitive but that crosses the line.

If ya need someone to step in while USMeddog is recuperating I'd wouldn't mind helping you out. When you see me up just let me know where you are and I'll do my best to maintain Meddog's status quote. :)

As far as RR v other outfits. I'm sure that it really depnds on what part of the country you happen to live in. Since I happen to live in a smaller area, than say Los Angeles, prices on everything are a bit reduced.  No offence taken. I just mentioned my personal dealings with RR. Hmmm, RR at the time was not owned by Time Warner....I wonder how much a difference that might make today?
