Let's see... Car wash girl, 50 boiled eggs, failure to communicate, Paul Newman's lack of respect for authority...

Yeah, you must have missed something.

Don't know about "classic" but that scene with the blonde washing her car....

That made for many a sleepless night as a young man.

i guess the hype over stated the movie.

Ya the car wash girl was the best. Another favorite scene was when he was shaking the bush, just before another escape attempt.

All those suds just slidin down her body....man oh man.

I'd rank it up there with Papillon. Maybe because Papillon was based on a true story it is harder hitting to you.

I've always considered Luke to be one of Newman's finest performances, right behind Hud.

Try watching it again with a couple of beers. I always find that most movies make a lot more sense when you have a couple of beers inside you.

I think it's a classic and I generally hate prison movies. (I must have been a prisoner in a past life!)

the pepper and the bloodhounds...

shakin the bush boss, I'm shaking it..

shoveling the sand onto the road in breakneck speed ...

too many more moments to type out here ..

maybe you need to watch it again ... in about 10 years

and Papillon the book was 1000x better than the movie

When my dad went to sea, their ship sailed past Devil's Island at night.  That was when Papillon was there (1937).  Salud Islands (Health Islands) off the coast of French Guyana on the way to Brazil.

He said life at sea was lonely, and couldn't sleep on deck at night (it was so hot) due to vampire bats that would come out to sea several miles.  At least they were advised to not sleep on deck at night in that area.
