B-24 ride, pictorial for my AH pals
« on: July 15, 2005, 01:53:51 AM »
Here is a pictorial of my 4th of July ride on a B-24J.  I was wishing all the Aces High pilots could be there with me (well, not all at once . . . and not the ones who shot me down the last couple of times in the MA, of course).

He's probably the same age as the guys were when they did the originial missions. :)  The crew overall, including the pilot, are quite young.  I think the pilot was Rob Collings, son of Bob Collings, founder of the Collings Foundation, which owns the plane.  The other crew are, I think, volunteers for the foundation.

She was pretty jazzed about getting to fly in a B-24.  I told her about the B-24, and she really liked listening to parts of The Wild Blue: The Men and Boys Who Flew the B-24s Over Germany, by Stephen Ambrose, with me.   He's the guy who wrote Band of Brothers and many other excellent WWII histories.  (We got it as a book on tape through audible.com.)

Hey, that would be *awesome*!  I'll take you guys out to dinner at your favorite restaurant.  What did he fly in WWII?

Kinda got a little confused when it said it was the only flying b24 but then I say that they change paint schemes because I went with Delirium when Dragon and his Tail came to CT along with Nine o' Nine (b17) a he111, and Sentimental Joureny (b17).  But why do they keep changing the paint schemes?  Id rather see the b24 left in its original paint scheme.

Don't quote me on this, but they probably change it after a few years because the old scheme is getting worn off and they want a fresh look on it.  Also, seeing as how its the only flyable one left, there are so many paint schemes that not changing it every once in a while would get old.

Nice pics and congrats.

I've been aboard that b24.

If you liked the flight experience in the B24 you would like the B17 flight experience even better.

I flew on the B17G "Yankee Lady", in my opinion the best maintained B17G (and I've seen 5 B17s)

Pictures and videos of my ride on the B17G and are on my website.

I would like to apply for "co-pilot" duties. I am 30 years old, have PVP with instrument and multi-engine rating and have over 1200 flight hours. I also have to shave. :)

I am currently employed but would sacrifice it join the team.

I can also land on carriers (virtual I might add)

I will work for Ramen soup.
Apparently, one in five people in the world are Chinese. And there are five people in my family, so it must be one of them. It's either my mum or my dad. Or my older brother, Colin. Or my younger brother, Ho-Chan-Chu. But I think it's Colin. - Tim Vine.

I think they change the paint schemes every now and then both because the plane needs to be repainted every now and then and because they can also honor various aircraft and theaters of operation.

Jpeg, thanks for the pics of your B-17 ride and of various other aircraft!
