That shows my age.  I went through Great Lakes in 1974.

Good Luck but you should have went subs!!!!  :)

Great Lakes is that way.  And you're right about the subs.  Remember, there are only two kinds of ship:  Subs and Targets.

Great Lakes '86...

I agree with Swager. Submarines were the only reason I joined the Navy.

I went in Feb '86. I don't recall Co. I would have to dig through some boxes to find the old pics.

I got out in '92. (STS)

Remember your CC's?  Mine were ICC Couture and RMC Baldwin.  Never will forget those 2.  Had a great time during boot camp as well.

Diablo, I was an STS (79-85)  Best rate in the Navy.  Well, it was during the Cold War.

The Navy was a great experience, even though Hang says it means I'm gay!!  :)

BlueJ1, while in Boot, try to get into an area of responsibility that gives you some leadership or special job.  Like company clerk, MMA, Athletic Petty Officer, platoon leader.  IT keeps you out of the crappy jobs during service week!!

Well, I guess I better ask.  Does Navy Boot still have service week??

Its been 25 years!!

My father was an STG equivalent during the Korean War, SN3 (Sonarman Third).

Yes, they still have service week.  Since I was Laundry Petty Office I got to hang out in the barracks all week.

Gunslngr, when we had service week we had to wax the entire barracks floor with wax.  By hand.  Using HOT water and sponges.  Actually, THEY had to.  As the LPO it was my job to supervise, hehehehe....

Good luck Blue, enjoy your time.  My first 3 years I was an FTN'er, my last year I straightened up and flew right and it paid off big time.

Best decision I ever made.  Second was to go back in as a reservist.

I was told that since I am a E-3 that I will most likely be a RPOC. Recruit Petty Officer In Charge. Is service week really that bad ?

Basically, it doesn't matter what your rate is going in.  The CCs will make a decision on RPOC and ARPOC based on what they see the first week.  I wa a stickman.  I carried one of the flags and we practiced our tulips off so we wouldn't look foolish at graduation.  At service week I was in the mess hall galley.  IT SUCKED!!  Worked my bellybutton off, while the squad leaders and platoon leaders got some cozy service week job.

Ya see squad and platoon leaders dont lead squat!!  They actually follow the stickmen because the stickmen are out front carrying the flags. Stickmen get screwed, so dont volenteer to be one!  ITs been 25 years and I am still upset about that!! Freakin Slackers!!   They may have changed things, I dont know.

Do they still have the Little Chicken and Big Chicken thing going there?

Anyways, when do you leave?  You're gona be a raisin!!! Raisins are new to Boot Camp.  Ya can tell buy their hair cut!
