Fighters helping BUFF's phbbbbt
« on: August 04, 2005, 02:33:23 AM »
Most of the time we're on or own.
No fighter cover no gunners.
I can't count the times i've down in flames tring to help take a field and a fighter jumps me.
Stay in the bomb sight to make my drop.
To take out  all the fh's so you fighter can clean up.
As to milk runs I must admit I have done that from time to time.
But mostly I look on the clipboard like where you jocks are hitting and try to lend a hand.
Guess I should let you do all the work and see how many fields you take.

I don't think Buff pilotshave a right to expect escort but I do think it would be nice if fighter pilots saw buffs upping and tried to protect them. The game is great but it loses out on the immersion and realism certainly in the MA because of the way many players play it. Theres little incentive to work as a team.  I tend to play solo as I don't expect help. It does come and when you up with people working together its great but in my experience rare.

Of course I don't play when the arena is chock full as I'm UK based and in bed during US prime time. So I can't say my comments are categoricaly correct. Just what I observe when I'm in the virtual sky.

Really helps if your in a squad, when we do buff missions we always have some as 'little friends' along with us.
Or we have been known to escort the DHBG from time to time.
But yeah mostly its a thankless task.

There's your problem: wrong target. We don't want you to take the FH's down.

We want you to hit the VH, and then the town; because we're tired of doing all the work of town demolition with our gun ammo which should have been used to vulch because you're too new to learn the salvo and delay commands properly to take out a town.

That's why you dump the lot on big, fat hangers, isn't it?

Buffs dont need escort in AH. Their own defence is good enough.

I have run into the same problem about teamwork, however there is something you can try and do. You can make missions and eventually you will get a group of people (buffs and fighter guys) that will regularly fly with you, you just need to get your name known. It does take sometime, doesn't always work but when it does its great. Being part of a squad also helps alot. If your a rook or a knight, i know that both teams start up missions regularly depending on the time. That may not be when you fly though I suppose... Just keep at it and you'll find some good guys to fly with even though your not all in the same sqaud:)

AH isn't as much of a team game as you would guess.  The vast majority of folks are playing solo.  There are no obligations here.  Would you like to learn a game inside and out only to have to protect newer players who havn't learned how to defend themselves?

Well,

to be honest bomber need AI gunners, I mean the old Warbirds' otto. I love buff hunting, however it is not fair to jump a buff while the lone pilot is using the bombsight.

Otto accuracy could be tweaked according to pilot k/d, k/t, hit ratio and so on.  I mean, the more missions you come back from and the more fighters you shoot down ... the more experienced your AI gunners should become.

Speak for yourself.  I WANT the fh, vh, and all ack down so we can go in, kick the sheeite out of the fighters that are left, and capture the base without some last minute suicide la-la taking off and killing the goon.

I (speaking as a guy who puts together LOTS of base capture missions) have tried it both ways, fh up and fh down.  FH up is almost always a bust, especially if there is a brief delay in getting the goon on station.  The farther away the base, the worse the challenge.  Unless the mission is absolutely HUGE, the attackers will run out of ammo swatting down the planes trying to up, and lose cap.  When that happens, no capture is possible, of course.

Face it, a dedicated, don't-give-a-damn goon hunter will probably get the goon before he is killed if the goon is too close to the target with a lot of enemy in the area.  That's part of the way the game is played.

So yes, please continue knocking FHs down.  And to those of you who object to that due to it limiting your ability to up and kill goons, I'm sorry for your luck.  Try flying in from a field nearby.

Now, I am ready for the armchair generals to all tell me how my tactics are wrong or invalid.  Usually I hear from the guys who never get involved in the base capture thingie, since it is beneath them.  But they know how it should be done, nevertheless.

it's all about interdiction
« Reply #12 on: August 04, 2005, 09:57:13 AM »
you're not covering the goon properly if that happens, even if the goon killer came from another base.

the biggest problem is not sending out interdiction flights to nearby bases to prevent a goon killer from even getting to the area.

the same problem existed in AW as well, the squad who had one of teh best organized base captures (along with the appropriate interdiction flights) was the Grave Diggers.
Surrounded by suck and underwhelmed with mediocrity.
I'm always right, it just takes some poepl longer to come to that realization than others.

Exactly Shane.

Also..about the VH..last I knew fighters were capable of carrying bombs. A couple thousand pounders and rockets will destroy it. I recommend using them.

As for protection for bombers, Im often helped out by friendly fighters, six calls, getting one off me. The bomber guns are more than adaquate to do the job providing you are high enough. Going in low to a heavily defended base with buffs is just asking for disappointment.

From what I can tell, the whole reason buff guns are so uber is because they seldom receive escort, but hey thats not my problem. Try rolling a D20 and adding some points to your charisma. Then maybe... umm... I don't know...... ASK for some escort.
