Well, we'll see...to be honest, I don't think it will help me much, but at least I won't have to use the hat switch all the time.

How many other people use the TrackIR in AH?

In a few years you'll no more think about a flight sim (or racing sim) without TrackIR than you would a sim that didn't support a joystick; it's a must have item.

Not neccesarily because it's "better" (there's still people mouse flying happily enough, right?); but because it's "right".

It took me about two to three months to really get used to it; and the absolute straight six view maybe isn't as good as what one can achieve with judicious head positioning and a hat switch; but it still rocks :-)

The Track IR is way beter IMO. It helps me so much, I think it is almost cheating :lol

It does take a while to get used to, but after that, it rocks.

It is much easier to track targets. And if you dont loose sight of the enemy, its a huge advantage in a turn fight.

It's a head tracking device. You can watch around by moving your head slightly, no need for hat buttons anymore.

Tried it.  Couldnt get used to it.  Might sell it, I'm thinking about it.  I've been using the keyboard for so long its just second nature.  My hand knows where the buttons are.  The hat switch is really not even useful to me (I only have a 4 way hat on my old Flightstick Pro) so I use it for combo button views like up right or up left, up back and up forward.  The keypad is still my comfort zone for views.

Blammo,

Expect 3 months of pain before it becomes second nature. Your gunna learn how to fly all over again.

With a hat switch you fly "from" the views because of the set angles.

With Track IR you fly "into" the views, so you lose your learned ability to fly the plane looking out at a specific angle.

Get some profiles from us that have gone through the painful setup, test, and retest phase.

didnt like it in AH.  felt it was a disadvantage rather than an advantage when fighting.  it is now unplugged gathering dust in a draw.

it is awesome in IL2 and FS games though.
I am not ashamed to confess that I am ignorant of what I do not know.

I like mine... but after a month and a half I still have problems at times. It doesn't make me motion sick at all.....it's my HEAD that causes problems. The best piece of advice  I'd give is what another guy gave to me. It takes a while to get your head "calibrated". I still lean and tilt and duck and bob and weave. It's a hard habit to break and it really messes up my gunnery, which pretty much blew to begin with. I need a neck brace or something to learn not to move my head around so much. Profiles are important too.

Let me start off by saying that the TIR is an awesome tool that works perfectly and really aids in the immersion. My two best tips are to get the unit at least 40 inches away from your head and to set large deadbands.

IL2FBAEPPF does not allow your head to move about within the cockpit, so much of the advanced functionailty of the Vector expansion is lost, but that limitation does make getting used to it easier IMHO. The AH view system is the most advance in any flight sim that I know of, and while this makes the TIR with vector perform amazingly it also makes the learning curve steeper.

Expect a 50% reduction in gunnery and K/D for the first few months. I think the difficulty in getting used to it is directly proportionate to how long you've been flying with a hat for your views. My 14 year old FCS can attest to that!

It takes only a tiny bit of my CPU, if you are already close to the edge on performance it MIGHT be an issue but I doubt it.
