Amen to that.  We got the Join requests fixed so it stays the way you want it, a permanent squelch list would be great too.

Yup - perma-squelch is most needed.
... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

Agreed, some cracker named Tex is forever PMing me talking crap when he kills me, and then logs after i spank him. when he logs he goes off my squelch list it seems. then he's back running his foul little mouth again.

Absolutely no reason to not give us a permanent squelch list. Some folks deserve to be on a permanent squelch list. HiTech has stated before that he doesnt believe a permanent squelch list is good for the community. Well Mr. HiTech, there are many people who bask in the anonymity of the Internet and feel that that very same anonymity gives them the right to speak, type, be abusive in whatever way they wish. It's THOSE people that would be on my permanent squelch list, not the players that respect others.

All that is required for a permanent squelch list is to add a file, and have everyone you squelch go to that same file and have the file load when you start up the game. Simple and shouldnt take to much of your valuable time.

In the end you should be thankful for those players like us who switch to try and help keep things even because our willingness to do so, helps a more selfish, I want it my way player, get to fly his latewar uber ride.

A few years back I cancelled my account here because of this very subject. HT was adamant at that time that permanent squelches would never happen. So I decided to take my pennies elsewhere. Fortunately he relented and we now see the main channel being squelched by default (bravo for that HT!) So I was happy to return.

There are out of game options that will work for the remaining need to squelch individual players though. I use a programable keyboard device (Belkin N52) and just have a macro written that is bound to a specific key. When I log in, I hit that key and it runs the squelches I've got programmed. Works like a charm and saves me having to type it in every time.

Its certainly more combersome than an ingame solution would be. And I do agree fully that a full suite of persistent squelch options should be offered. However, there are other options. Fortunately I haven't had to perma-squelch anyone since returning. Having channel 1 perma-squelched now by default makes a world of difference right there. It works great for squelching 6 when I log in though. I'll just add the individual players into the macro as needed.

Nice Necro-bump, so IN! for that

What is also still relevent is the fact that names get recycled. So while we are all looking forward to perma-squelching Midway  :neener: what happens down the road when he changes his name, finally moves on, or someone shoots him for real  :devil His name will get released back into the "available" file and a new guy comes in and nobody talks to him because he choose the name "Midway".

It's bad enough HTC has to waste time resetting the score tables, and updating the web page with those that are best at tweaking their scores  Now you want to add clearing a squelch list from every players at the end of the month too? Give it up, just squelch the one that annoy you. If you have so many that bother you so often, then maybe "they" aren't the problem  :bolt:
