My wager is that they will not take the necessary steps. That is some prime real estate they are talking about condemning. That is going to be a real nasty fight to resolve in 6 months.
Cecil is surrounded by farm land. The area has not change that much over the last 10 years. Cecil was closed originally because of pure politics. Virginia had more political clout at that time. That situation is changing rapidly. Cecil is the best base in the country to fly high performance military aircraft from. It is far enough away from any major population centers with large tracks of open land around the base. Jacksonville has plenty of open land in other areas to satify community development for years to come.
Yes, I live in Jacksonville. Stationed at Cecil field from 1976-1980, USN VS-32. Returned and made it my home in 1990.
