12 cyl - Ferrari Colombo Type 125 V-12 (250 GTO, 250 TR, etc.) - 6 twin choke Webers.

8 - cyl Cosworth DFV V-8 - THE racing motor.

6 - cyl (tie)
Nissan S20 I-6 (Hakasuka GT-R)
Ferrari Dino V-6 (Lancia Stratos)

4 - cyl
Subaru EJ20T H-4 - Boxer Rumble

Don't care for the sound of V-10s or twins.  Haven't heard enough V-16's to comment.  :)

The engine sounds in the movie Bullit were just plain awesome.
( The scene witht the Stang crow hopping after the missed turn wasn`t bad either. :) )
To me there is nothing sweeter than the sound of a V twin, either at idle or eating up the ribbon.
Democracy is two wolves deciding on what to eat. Freedom is a well armed sheep protesting the vote.

I think my next project will be to build a high performance electric vehicle,  but to put include a speaker system to make it sound like a Plymouth Road Runner.  After all, what good is a high performance vehicle if it doesn't make noise?  What are we, up to the level of THX 1138?

uh... seeker... the original motor in my Healey was an austin 4 cylinder.   They didn't go to the six till 57.

rocrat... how do you get 640 hp to breath through a set of cherry bombs?

Any high performance motor sounds kinda cool.   Any motor that doesn't sound cool.... can with a little work.

You guys ever hear a 270 GMC punched out to 302 with a wayne twelve port head, isky full race cam (that's what they called em back then) and three dueces?

3  1/2in cb's would do it .

i made 728hp thru 3 inch turbo's years ago ...(427 fe)

nothing like the sound of a big crank pontiac and a tri-power or a rolls griffin.
