I'd also like to be able to stick the dead out, as just opening the window would not help. It can also be used to your advantage if you get an oil hit.

on fighters, it's not a window...it's a canopy.

go check real quick, doesn't the 109 canopy in il2 slide open? i can't remember it's been a while since i had it installed.
The 109's had sliding windows attached to the canopy. I know the one on the left slid, I don't remember if the one on the right did, too.

Or you could apply slight rudder and crab  in until your right in front of the runway if you go to an airshow that has for instance an extra 300 that is what the pilot does on landing  :D

Our planes are no different than IRL.  NOBODY has the canopy open during takeoff or landing unless some mechanical issue has arisen or it has been shot to chit.

Just learn how to "see" what you don't see.  Practice on carriers......  By far the hardest of landings in our game.

Sometimes I wonder if people post simply the most factually incorrect information they can think of, as if it's some part of some game or something.

You can find many, many more without really trying. It seems to have been just as common as taking off with the canopy shut.

Yes but you want to be able to look out when landing, as that is the most important time. While on the ground you just taxi in S shaped patterns and see what's in front of you, you can't do that while landing.
