My understanding is that Hitler insisted it was used as a bomber in order to go on the offensive.  Messerschmidt, Galland & the rest were gobsmacked that such an advanced fighter/interceptor was to be used in this way.

But the purists will argue it's historically accurate...........

I suppose a few teenie little bombs wouldn't hurt :)

Actually it wasn't entirely Hitler's fault for it to go into mass production earlier it was the engines that were problematic and they finally found a solution , that could allow them to have the engine be used for an acceptable amount of time before being refitted with a new one.

It appears to be mentioned in Alfred Price's Book: " The last year of the Luftwaffe"

Besides technical failures Glassess mentioned, RLM was very skeptical off this new design for a fighter combat.

But yes it is true first time hitler saw that plane he got the idea of his "schnellbomber" and since nobody had the guts (besides probably Galland) to speak against him Messerchmitt had to partially redesign the plane wich probably cost month.

Today we will never find out if it could've been brought into combat earlier.

In his Book "the first and the Last" (hope it's the right engl. Title) Galland believe it could've.

P.S. Glassess could you PM me please?

regards

You are a bad, bad boy who hasn't been paying attention in class.

Capital letter at the beginning of a sentence, and full stop at the end.

Write it out 50 times before tomorrow and NO sweets at playtime.
