Much of the LoC archives has been scanned into digital format.

This includes a huge and diverse collection of WWII aviation photos, in color and B&W. You can download the images at various resolutions, from 100 kb to a whopping 200 megs!

Just go here and type whatever you are interested in seeing into the search box and off you go. A person could spend days looking at the countless images and documents on the LoC servers.

Here's a few beauties I found in a few minutes.









This P-40 is just about to crash, caught by an alert photograper.








Note the French insignia of the Free French Air Force.

This needs a sticky. Found my great grandfather on his submarine during World War 1 out of Ireland. L-3 (Capt Percy Wright) all the way at the bow.

Actually I thing it's and Armée de l'air Marauder, I don't remember of any used by FF but I could be wrong

Actually a postwar RCN Seafire XV with the Griffon VI engine.  This was the navy version of the Spitfire XII.
