Was I asking too much?
« on: October 19, 2005, 08:36:17 AM »
A few days ago, I had a player dive on me with a 109G10, he got one good ping on me (smoked my #2 engine) and proceeded to attempt to pick a squadmate. He cut hard and I was able to catch up to him and down the 109.

For 3 days this player gave me 3 days worth of headaches via private whisper, and I'm wondering if I did the right thing. Rarely do I care, but I'm curious to hear how the community feels... I've let the player's name stay anonymous.

Here is the text of what happened, straight from the screenshots including upper and lower case... note, I never even responded until he apologized.

Player: u folkin peice of feces since when can a P38 keep up with a 109g1
Player:109G10
Player: ur a cheating peice of garbage delirium
Player: u just got pissed cause i got a piece or ur nasty ars

Next day (after landing a sortie)

Player: cheating SOB
Player: u r on my sthit list pal. If i can get u disbanned from this ga
Player: game i will, believe me I will u cheating SOB

Couple days later, out of the blue

Player: My sincere apologies for the other day calling you a cheat.
Player: on a flat turn.. P38 was faster. Sir
Player: Without Gondos's the 109G10 is much quicker.
Delirium: Good to see you a little more cordial, I had collected all
Delirium: the screenshots for Skuzzy, was going to hand em in after the
Delirium: server move
Delirium: Your manner was incredibly rude...
Delirium: post a public apology on the forums and we are good
(I didn't have the screen shot for the one above line)
Player: I will not sir. If I had talked to you on public channel, then
Player: I would... since it was private i am apologizing in private
Delirium: the public apology would encourage you to remember what
Delirium: happened inthe future, so someone else doesn't
Delirium: have to suffer through your 'tirades'
Delirium: apology not accepted
Player: I do  not appreciate you and your MASTER DEGREE words.
Delirium: thats what I thought... glad I stuck to my guns on this one
Player: u are truly a jerk... most of the guys sincerely dislike ur atti
Delirium: yep
Player: like a child does in grade school. You have alot of growing up
Player: to do delirium..regardless of ur age!
Delirium: So does the community in AH, and it will eventually

edit: No names are mentioned, just curious how the community as a whole feels, there is no need to lock this thread.

Delirium, pay no mind bro.  He's pissed off because he blew his Alt AND E to attempt a cherry pick.  He was the one who got slow and low in a G10 WITH Gondolas.

You are a representation of the 475th.  All of you are class acts.  <>

Agreed, it does no good to try and push the issue past where it obviously should have ended. His tirade was in private and a private apology is more than adequate.

I agree with HiTech on this one.  The other guy was wrong and clearly wrong, but you, being the quality of person you are, should have risen above his level and accepted the apology.  It was an olive branch after all.

I think you shoulda just sent in the screenshots to HT and let them deal with his accusations.  apology or not, the accusations, of the thing we dont talk about, were made.

Hey Del, sorry for saying all those mean things to you.

I know you don't hack, I just got upset because you caught my run109.

I hope we can still be friends....:cry

Obviously the guy was out of line, no question.  Apologies are hard for some to do, and easy for others.  I personally think you should have accepted his apology.  Also, I think you should have kept the screenshots just in case.  By accepting, you would have taken the high ground, by asking him to apologize on BBS, you were stirring the pot a little.

I love how the moment you did not accept his apology he resorted right back to not typing out the full words.

First of all: >S< Delirium. Youre a class act.

Whoever said those things should grow a mind himself. Nevertheless, you probably shouldve accepted that apology, just to show him youre better than that. But i can certainly understand why you would choose not to.

BTW, id have squelched him after that second line. And probably never heard that apology at all.

PS: IMHO, youre wrong on another account. I dont think AH community will *ever* grow up.

"id have squelched him after that second line... never heard that apology at all."

Except without any kind of perma-squelch feature EVERY single time Delerium logged into AH he'd have had to waste his time squelching that moron.

I personally can't fault Delirium in the least. From the text he posted it's plain as day he wasn't dealing with someone who is rational and well "balanced."  In all honesty the "unknown" player fits the description of "psychopath" pretty well.

Hmmmmmmmmm...

IMHO I would have told that person to take it to HTC when they sent the 1st PM or I would do so for them.  What they sent was abusive.  Possibly because they were upset and wanted you to be upset as well?  Both pay for using/flying in AH which gives neither the right to abuse the other except with virtual bullets :)

RE: the apoligy.  IMHO If it had been all private then a private apoligy would be fine.  If it  had been public then a public apoligy would be require.  Not on the BBS but in the arena in which it occured and on the same channel.

Had a GF that used to love to insult/abuse me in public and then get all lovey dovey and say how sorry she was in private.  One day I got tired of it and told her NOPE not acceptable.  If you can insult/abuse me in public you can say your sorry in public.  Made it stick.  We parted not too long after.

Welp thats just my $0.02.
