Started a little rough but ended great. We started out 0-2 and thank goodness they were non-conference games. We ended the regular season with 6 straight wins and in first place in the conference. Two of those wins are against the teams we lost to in the first two games. the last game we came from behind at halftime down 19-7 and won 20-19. We start playoffs on the 3rd against the team we just beat 20-19.
Down here we have 24 kids on the team. That is the perfect amount to have after we had 34 last year and were undefeated until the championship game. As for the biggest and fastest being on the line I like having the best athletes on the team blocking and have pushed for it to be that way for the last two years. It sure does make a difference in the fourth quarter because the other team is getting punished and then I can stick in my subs and let the big boys (who are 2nd team backs) get some carries.
Our offensive line weight averages counting tight ends is 80.28 pounds. My son is the lightweight at left tackle weighing in at 71 lbs. Thank goodness we only have to weigh in once during the season.
Thanks for the update. Sounds like your team "cowboy'd up!"

Our "Sweet Pea" division as they call it, is set up with the following criteria:
8 year olds 81 lbs. - 110 lbs.
9 year olds 76 lbs. - 100 lbs.
10 year olds No minimum - 90 lbs.
11 year olds No minimum - 75 lbs.
There are 5 divisions for each team, age groups from 7-14 years old with various weight requirements so that they evening match up.
The kids are allowed to gain 1 lb. per week after the initial pre-season weigh in. The season is 8 weeks long (not counting playoffs). My oldest son (9 y/o) started out at 81 lbs. and now he weighs 87 lbs. (Gear on) Our goal in the offseason is to keep him fit, and under 90 lbs. I'd venture to guess our offensive line avg. is roughly 90-95 lbs.
This being my first season watching this age group, it amazes me how intense they are, and how hard they play. The kids grow into little men with the disciplines that football offer them. Its carried over into my sons "work ethics" regarding homework too.
