ActiveX/downloading problems
« on: October 27, 2005, 02:53:13 PM »
hmmm. where to start.

Ok, I normally listen to a 30 min long press conference in Realplayer(only option) after work on Mondays. The last two weeks, real player kept timing out a couple minutes into it, so I chalked it up to the net/server being too busy. Tried again last night and got the same problem. Figured I'd go to my DSL providers site and dowload the DSL Checkup program. Got a popup right below my toolbar saying I need to install this activeX thing, clicked OK. The download fails and says I need to enable activeX. It is, I verified it and turned them all to enable. Try again, same thing. next time, it says the servers are busy .

Next thing, uninstall real player. Reinstall realplayer, but during the installation it says it cannot connect with server, verify I'm still online. DSL connection, still online. Run through their troubleshooting section, basically resetting Internet explorer. Still no luck.

Go to Microsoft to download updates. All of the updates download and install perfectly.

Still can't get realplayer to download, or the activeX stuff to work with my DSL provider. I have run Adaware, spybot, AVG and registry mechanic. Any Ideas??

Ok recently went back to DSL from cable...in my situation it was a bad decision that will be rectified very soon...HOWEVER now that I am back with DSL I have had constant issues with my D-Link Di-624 wireless/wired router. It was constantly rebooting itself.

So a couple of questions:
• Do you use a router for internet connectivity?
  • If so is it wireless or wired?
  • Also if yes to router question have you updated the firmware of the router?
  • Can you check connectivity without using router if you use one to connect?
  •
The reason I ask the last question is until I found the newest firmware on my router I had to use the laptop to connect upstairs via a cable into the router but once I downloaded the newest firmware I can go back wireless with my desktop downstairs.

BTW I hate Bellsouth ADSL "FastAccess" service! Give me Charter.net cable modem service anyday!!!!

1. Yes I use a router
2. Wired
3. I can't download the firmware upgrade because of the activeX problem. I keeps telling me to enable activeX in my browser, which I've checked several times.
4. Not sure about this one, but I don't have any problems getting on the internet, or playing AH online.
