Marlin Lever Action

I need a stock..(just the stock not forearm) for a Marlin 336 30-30 Lever Action


I hav elooked throught soem sites..but dammit..I i have found is sythetci and brand new custom woods $100= plus.

Ideally I would like to buy a used one


any good sites?

Guy I shoot with most often has a gawdamned marlin .35 lever gun, he calls it a 'carbine', I call it 'crap'. The bonehead left it sittin in a puddle in his basement some years back, its all pitted, rusty, stocks cracked; action jams all the time and my wrist rocket is more accurate... and that thing has a scope on it, tho I have no idea what for. ( he sez so he can see how far off the paper the rounds hit)

But when it actually manages to cough a round outta the rusty tube mag and it somehow spits the fat little canon round it into the chamber, it really goes *BOOM*... kicks like a missouri mule and man; don't he ever look like john wayne with his goofy cowboy hat and two eye patches. When he buys ammo for it at about 20 bucks a box.. I have a hard time keeping a straight face. He saves on targets tho; hasn't had to buy a new one for the last 6 months. ;)

This is not to disparge lever guns in good repair and well maintained... if yah like exploding jigsaw puzzles. :D

Marlin rifles are fine rifles.  I've shot the 444 before and it was a friend's rifle and a bit worn, but it was damn cool.  Used to have a Marlin golden 39 A .22 but it burned up in a fire.  I had it completely rebuilt by a gunsmith (stock, feeding tube, springs, extractor) I liked that rifle so much.  I bought a new one after that and traded it to my brother for a Remington Speedmaster (looks like a Browning)  The extractor doesn't work well on the burned Marlin  though and it's not a shooter because of that.  Trigger wiggles a little and it ain't tight.  It fires but won't cycle consistently.  Fire probably affected the barrel also taking the temper out of it.(another Japanese army rifle on the rack melted!!!).  I love Marlin rifles and think they are a quality product.  That Marlin barrel didn't melt, though everything else was in need of replacement.

yup marlin makes some outstanding weapons. truly.

it's my buddy. we never miss a chance to break each others shoes.. speaking of which, the guy has squeeky combat boots, drives a ranger pickup with no straight metal and everything leaks, his house leaks, his wife leaks and even his 7-11 cups of coffee always have a hole in 'em.

we call him 'mung'.

everything he owns gets a coat of mung on it within a matter of days.. not even a marlin could survive ownership by the MungMaster for 20 years without suffering cruely.

I grew up hunting squirrels and rabbits with a Marlin .22 (albeit a little heavy for a young lad of 9-10 y.o.), and deer with a Marlin 30-30. I love those gun. Today the only firearm I own is a Marlin 30-30.

I got Marlin 1895CB just for looks (I love long barrel) and for the big bore.
Quality rifle indeed. Even tried kick ammo like 500gr tungsten core Garret loads (not recommended for 26" barrel though).
The only negative is price of 45-70 quality ammo, some $60-80 per 20.

Btw, I have a .30-30 Marlin also.  I friggin love the thing, but can't stand the ammo prices.

Another suggestion you could try.  There are several websites that cater to CAS (cowboy action shooting), and almost all of them have a traders section.  They advertise guns, parts, leather, hats, coats, whatever.  Alot of these guys have .30-30 lever actions for side matches, and they are common as dirt.  If they arent selling they can tell you where to get it cheap.  Just register as a guest and put up an ad "WTB: New or used stock for Marlin 336"

I guarantee you'll have answers that day, if there's time in the day for them to answer.  Some sites you can try...........
