Dont think the two can be compared side by side.  It isn't like CoD in that it has a theatrical feel to it.  It has a different kind of experience, fairly gloomy.  realistic.  The end of the interview SunKing linked said it best:

"We hope that gamers don’t look at this as “just another WWII game” but get in and see what tens of thousands of fans have been addicted to for the past two years. Red Orchestra has been created from the ground up with a different gameplay philosophy than any WWII game every made. Other games try and make you feel like you’re in a war movie, Red Orchestra will make you feel like you’re in a war."

Sunking, thanks for that article link. I'm even more excited for it to come out. The one thing I hope they do is limit the grenades. Right now it can become a grenade-fest in city maps. My favorite thing to do is use the bolt-action rifles for long range shots. Just so satisfying seeing your target fall in the distance...

COD2 still doesn't have ragdoll right? I hear its just a rehash of the 1st game and multiplayer with bumbmapping thrown in.. One thing is soo hated about the COD games is in multiplayer it feels like you push to one side of the map, turn and push back exactly the sameway you attacked, as if the spawns swapped.

I dont think so.  They have death animations and pre-fab grenade blasts.  :(

I had no interest in multiplayer CoD after playing RO.  I dont think single player for #2 it has the awe factor of the first one.  Same effects (except the smoke, which is nice), same annoying high pitch german and russian voice acting, annoying friendly AI, and the ability to kill 500+ germans in one stage.  The North African campaign was fun, I dig the crusader tanks.

Same here.  Dang shame about that.  Would like to try HL2.  Maybe someday Steam will die and they will allow the games to be played/installed without it.  One can only hope.

What exactly is Steam? I haven't tried to play any game like that not on a console in a long time.

It's like Windows Update, except you don't have a choice. It automatically downloads and installs new patches for you games that utilize Steam.

You can also buy HL2 packages (HL2+CS:S+DOD:S) and download the entire game through this method.

It could be a pain in the bellybutton if you turned on your computer and wanted to play a game, then all of a sudden Steam starts downloading and updating another game. You get to sit there and wait until it finishes.

Well it comes out this Wednesday. Makarov and I are jazzed.  Finally get to play our favorite WWII  FPS with a full server and pings under 100ms.

Check out this newest beta video. This is what WW2OL should've been....

For more information or to pre-purchase the game, visit www.steampowered.com.[/quote]

One thing though browsing the RO: OST official forums you see lots of WWIIOL players /ex-players which is not such a good thing imo.

For $22 USD its well worth it. I have played some of the beta using a friends key. I didn't care for the mod (too few servers, too many sit and camp players). I hate tanks / vehicles as well...

Overall though the potential is there for real fun as long as there's lots of diverse player types. If its the same 12 guys hiding and sniping it is about as much fun as those 'I fly smart players' in the main.

As for folks complaining about Steam I always wondered what their problems are with it? I haven't ever had any problem with Steam and I run all the beta versions. You can set Steam to load on start up or not, you can set each game to update manually  or automatic 'always keep my game updated'. You can back up steam to a disk or individual games. If your cpu crashes all you need is your Steam id and pw to download all the games you purchased. It doesn't take up any resources etc...

Just pure paranoia I suspect...

Anyway 2 o'clock eastern tomorrow RO: OST should be released. Sometime tomorrow evening I should be playing. If any AH'r is going to be playing and want to get together please post here.
